Help! I'm new

I haven't worked out in about 6 years, within those six years I've had two beautiful girls. I started the INSANITY workout video Monday (1/6) and I started clean eating 1/1/2014. I don't keep up with the workout, I take ALOT of breaks....it's really HARD! Sometimes I feel like a failure but I re assure myself that the people in the video are really fit and exercise daily. Eventually I'll be able to keep up right? I am also having a hard time figuring out this clean eating and balanced diet? I feel so lost and feel like I'm doing it all wrong? What's your opinion?

You're making this more complicated that it is. Take a deep breath.
Yeah, working out is going to be difficult at first, but take pride in knowing that you're doing something. It won't always be that hard. And why clean eating? Don't eat any way that you don't want to for the rest of your life. That only sets yourself up for failure. I suggest eating like you normally do, logging everything no matter what, and then decide which areas you need to cut back on or adjust.
Meeting the calorie goal is enough of a challenge right out of the gate. Focus on meeting that number first.0 -

You wanting to do better for yourself is a huge first step. Build on that little by little. You'll notice pretty quickly how much those 'little' things matter and they're not as small as you think. Feel free to add me0 -

My problem I think is I follow a lot of the fitness pages on Instagram and see these girls who have made AMAZING transformations and in my mind it happened in like a month lol when really I know it takes time.0

You'll feel a huge difference in 6 months.
You'll feel like a whole new person in a year.

i don't think insanity is the best thing for someone who hasn't worked out in awhile.. i tried it 2 months ago and stopped the 2nd day. now im doing hip hop abs ... i still have to stop 2-3 times during the video so you aren't alone0

I want to eat clean too - but it is too much work for me. I always like to think of the 80/20 rule. If you're eating clean (or whatever your definition of "healthy" is) 80% of the time - don't sweat the other 20%.
I get tired just watching the infomercial for Insanity! Just keep at it and you'll get better and better.
Don't be so hard on yourself - you're right - those girls on instagram or whatever didn't get there overnight. And probably a lot are photoshoppped and don't have 2 kids and a life outside of fitness....0 -
You haven't worked out in 6 years, you WILL need a LOT of Breaks with Insanity! Insanity is a pretty intense workout! I've done several Beachbody workouts and haven't tackled Insanity yet. Yes, you CAN do fine with it, give yourself credit for DOING it, and do it at Your pace!

You are doing an amazing job - just by getting off the couch and moving you have made a huge difference in your life. Insanity is incredibly difficult - so don't beat yourself up. Most people can only do 10 minutes for the first week or so - so even if you are taking breaks and finishing the workout you are doing way more than many. As for nutrition - I feel like this is different for everyone. I know so many who are successful with "moderation" eating (weightwatchers). I, personally, cannot moderate. Its all or nothing, so I had to find what worked for me. I try and focus on eating 80% vegetables, some healthy fats like avocado and using olive oils. My protein consists of fish and chicken. I don't eat much fruit because its just too sweet for me. This is working well for me - and I feel fantastic. It really does take time to sort it all out - but try not to let it overwhelm you. You CAN do this!0

If you haven't worked out in a long time I wouldn't start Insanity right off the bat. I would highly suggest a workout program like Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred or Ripped in 30 (or any other workout/dvds set up like it). They are great 30 minute workouts that introduce you back into circuit training with pretty simple yet effective moves (push ups, jumping jacks, small weights, etc.). For me when I first started way back when these workouts helped me to build my endurance and use correct form. Then I was able to tackle harder workouts....have not done Insanity but I have friends that do and it took them well into their fitness journey to start them, actually do them, and stick with them.

Welcome! Good luck with your weight loss. I don't know much about the Insanity workout. I am assuming it's all out and hard. When I started my weight loss in July I started out slow by just walking and working my way up to working harder. For me I wanted to start out slow and have a little fun. In between walking I golfed some. carrying my clubs burned a good number of calories and made it fun too. As far as my diet, just started out making different choices. When I started we were actually on vacation and I started to drop pounds by when going out getting fish and veggies a few times. On vacation we did a number of ball games and I still had my hotdogs and nachos but other meals I ate healthier. Amazingly I dropped 15 lbs in 3 weeks of vacation by just making a few different choices. After vacation I started tracking on MFP and really paying more attention to what I was spending my daily calories on. I think it's enough to limit calories and limit "junk food." your starting something new it takes time
if you want a good plan for clean eating look up eat to live. i went from 220 to 165 since march.
you can do this. stay focused, be consistent. move
i focus on the power of 3. clean eating.. thats different for so many people. its what works for you, 30 min of movement, water.. the magical liquid.
