Suggestions needed. I'm right in the middle of my weight loss journey. 45 lost and 45 to go. My delima is this, on April 4th, I'm headed to Mexico with my girlfriend to celebrate our 50th birthdays. How much does everyone feel I can lose before that? It's taken me 6 months to lose the 45, I have been walking and watching cals. I have been on a plateau since the middle of December and no matter what I've done I can't get off of it!!! Good news with that is that I didn't gain over the holidays!!
MFP has me on a 1300 cal a day, and for the most part I stick to that. I hate to go lower than that because I always feel like I'm starving and then I hit the binging mode, and that is hard for me to stop. Thankfully that hasn't happened for a long time.
Is 20 lbs a realistic goal to reach in 12 weeks? Will adding strength training as well as doing the walking make a big difference? How have others handled plateaus?
I'm open to most anything!!! I can't run however, my knees can't handle it, plus I just hate it! I also don't have access to a gym, closest one is 15 miles away. But I'm willing to dance in my livingroom if I need to! So, that being said, HELP!!!!
Thanks much, Mary

I'm sorry, but I don't know that 20lbs in 12 weeks is super realistic. I mean can it happen? yes. Is it likely to happen? Hard to say.
Do you eat your exercise calories back? 1300 is pretty low although I also don't know your stats either....but could you maybe be creating a bit of a cycle for yourself with the low cals and then binging and perhaps that is why you have found yourself "plateaued". How long has it been since you have lost anything? Have you been weighing, measuring, and logging everything that you put in your mouth? Has your exercise routine changed at all?
As for strength training, it will certainly help your body composition and I would highly recommend it....but....it's likely that you won't really see the scale move when you start a good strength program but you will see inches lost. Just something to be prepared for should you chose to go that route.
You really do have options, but 20lbs in 12 weeks.....I feel like you might be setting yourself up for disappointment, I'm afraid :indifferent:0 -
20lbs in 12 weeks is only realistic if your calories are set to lose more than 2lbs a week. Try some group aerobic classes like kick boxing or bootcamp to get over your plateau. Good luck!!!0

Step up your workouts more, incorporating strength workouts is a good idea. Eat a little more, increase your protien and realistlcally you could lose 10-15lbs.0

Yes, I do eat my exercise cals back. and I kinda knew 20 was reaching, but I thought I'd ask others. I'm going to try pushing a little harder in my workout, start some strenght training, I know it'll make me feel much better if I feel stronger and less "flabby",
Thanks for the input and honest replies, I appreciate it!0
