Did i mess up my day by eating again AFTER working out

ok anyone can feel free to check out my food diary for the 10th to help me on this

im a 27 yo female and I weigh well over 300 pounds at 5'8'' I weigh 330 or possibly over that and im allowed to have 1850 cals a day according to MFP

anyway the 9th I was under my goal and it said that if I kept that up id be 305 in 5 weeks AND that I had ate too little

on the 10th I ate 1100 cals BUT I burned off 705 at the gym which would leave 395 cals

when I came home I ate give ot take 514 cals AND it said if I kept that up id be 310.6 pounds in 5 weeks

so is this bad? is this basically like how someone maintains weight? I want to LOSE weight, did I do THAT bad?

If 310 is less than you weigh now then you'd lose weight eating that amount of calories every day. If 310 is how much you weigh now than you'd need to eat less to lose weight.

So you're doing just fine. :) You could eat as many calories as you ate today and then some and still lose weight. No need to eat too little like you did on the 9th.

I'm confused. If it says you'll weigh 310 (losing 20lbs), in 5 weeks, you're going in the right direction. If anything, that's a little too aggressive. You're probably eating too little (especially given the numbers you've stated so far). I'd shoot for 10-15lbs TOPS in 5 weeks.

Eat what MFP tells you to eat. Get within +/- 50 calories. Succeed long term.

You should probably find out how much you weigh so that you can track your progress. How else will you know if you are losing? :)

your food diary isnt open .

and are you eating the amount of calories that MFP says you should?if you're getting messages saying you ate too little then the answer is more than likely no
  • sorry , my food diary is now open

yes im either eating around that amount or even a lot below that
  • well the last time I weighed myself a long time ago I weighed that much and I still fit into my old clothes although they are snug
AND planet fitness gym has a no scale policy AND I hate playing the numbers game since I get discouraged and fed up

If you're logging accurately, it doesn't look like you're eating enough.

Have you checked out this link?

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants?hl=sexypants

Also, if you're concerned about the timing of your eating... as in AFTER working out... timing has nothing to do with it. Don't worry about when you eat.

So which is it? Around the correct amount or a lot below that? I'm even more confused now.

MFP isn't magic, it doesn't know what you weigh. It's just doing a simple calculation from the last weight you inputted. It takes your calorie deficit from that day and then it makes a theoretical 5-week loss estimate from that. If you haven't input your current weight accurately it's not going to mean anything so just ignore it. Just eat what it tells you to, don't over think it. It's really very simple, especially at this stage of the game when you're just starting out. Your "Remaining" calories in your food diary should be as close to zero as reasonable. Do that for a couple months and see where you stand. Keep it simple.

Do you have a scale? You won't get proper estimates unless u know how much u weigh. :)

Hard to tell if the initial confusion has been cleared up from the replies but I take it you are seeing the prediction of 305 one day and then 310 the next as a bad thing in that it is a gain of 5lb's?

    It isn't!

What it is is a prediction on the days calorie intake compared to your current inputted weight of what you will weigh on the date it says. So every day you input your daily intake the prediction will vary slightly. If you a day of eating barely anything it will predict a much lower value than a day when you eat every single last calorie MFP says you should have. If you eat pretty much all your calories every day you will find your predicted figure will stay fairly steady.

Personally I take the predicted weight with a pinch of salt and as long as it is still lower than what I weigh on that day all is good.

I'm thinking that you figured out what she was getting at....

The way I look at that is... it is predicting by the day you just entered, ONLY. So, if you go way over one day, it will predict you'll be much heavier in 5 weeks. If you go way under one day, it will predict that you'll be much lighter.

Don't listen to what the computer is telling you because it changes every day. I noticed mine was fluxing from about 5/6 pounds in the 5 weeks all depending on what I put on my diary.

I have been advised to stick to my calorie intake and not eat significantly over or under.

I am not eating back my exercise calories but I am only doing light exercise anyway.

Make sure you're eating enough or you might make yourself ill.

Just stick to your calories, eat some of your exercise calories back, weigh your food to make sure you're logging properly. It doesn't matter when you eat.

Based on your height, weight, age and even saying you are sedentary you BMR (The amount of calories your body would burn if you slept all day) is 2200. Your body without exercise burns roughly 3000 calories per day if you work a desk job. You could easily eat 2200 calories a day and still lose weight. If you happened to be really hungry one day you could go up to 3000 calories without causing fat gain.

This is going to be a long process. It took me 3 years to go from obese to fit and it was worth sticking to. Some people manage to get there quicker, some people it takes longer.
