How do I get my metabolism back on track without gaining weight? I was stupid and went on another starvation diet eatting between 150-450 calories a day and exercising a lot. This went on for about a week and a half but prior to that it was on and off of eatting extremely low calories and a normal amount. On Wednesday I weighed 156 and I indulged a little and gained about a pound. Then on Thursday I made sure to eat "good". I ate a total of 182 calories and exercised a lot (iv been exercising 5-7 days a week) and I only lost 0.2 lbs which was extremely dissapointing. Then yesterday I got discouraged and ate bad and now I'm 159.6. My lowest within the last few years was 150 and my goal is 125. Last year I was stupid and did a starvation diet that lasted longer and when I started eatting I gained 20 lbs. how do I get my metabolism back to normal so I can start a normal healthy diet without gaining weight? Also what are some healthy diets and things to eat on it?

It's very unlikely that you will succeed to speed your metabolism, assuming that is is very ****ed up, without gaining any fat whatsoever. That being said, you can minimize fat gain by increasing calories slowly. So start with 1000 a day and add 100 every week until you reach maintenance (MFP automatically calculates how many cals you need to ate to maintain). Then stay on maintenance calories for couple of weeks and do normal diet from there.

If you do not have any eating disorder and you were just dumb it will be easy for you to do what I suggested and ate 1000 cals minimum every day. Just accept the hard truth and face it - you ****ed up and gaining some fat in a process will be inevitable. Nothing awful if you ate more than that, just make sure you meet the minimum. Get your metabolism in order and then you can do it right way.

If it's mentally impossible for you to follow this and ate that much then you need to get professional help.

Okay so lets clear this up...there is no starvation mode. Your body will not hold onto weight because of low calories.

It takes a very long long time for your body to go into what is called adaptive thermogenisis. There was a woman in the news last year who got stranded for 48 days and survived on trail mix and candy...lost 30lbs before she was found.

Now that being said what the OP is doing is not good.

Indulging a "little" does not mean you gained weight...to gain one pound you would have to consume 3500 calories over your maintenance....that is hard to do in one day.

You are probably experiencing water weight....that's it esp if you are exercising a lot.

Now there are no "diets' that are going to work. You need to eat at a reasonable calorie deficet, MFP will set that for you if you enter your stats and goals...and your goal should not be 2lbs a week...with just over 25lbs to lose 1/2 will do fine.

    I eat 1600 calories a day...lift weights and lose just over 1/2lb a week.

I would however suggest looking at yourself and figure out why the VLCD seem right to you...consult your physician and possibly get some help with it from a professional.

Sounds like your body doesn't know whether to come or go.

Once I did this very stupid crash diet. (And yes, I have an eating disorder.) Upon starting to eat again I gained 9 lbs in one day. But I'm pretty sure that's just what my body weighed with proper hydration and food in my intestinal tract. Don't freak out about "gaining", that's probably just what you actually weigh. I suggest you talk to you doc about this... 150 cals/day is in the freak-deaky territory.

It sounds like you're expecting big changes in a matter of days. That's just not realistic. This takes time, and it's so much easier to do if you eat a sustainable number of calories.
