Hi Pals:

Can anyone provide some nutritional advice on these Atkins pre-packaged meals. I am NOT on Atkins, but I am switching over to TDEE and about to start some heavy lifting. I am pretty desperate to make my protein numbers on days when I can't cook. I happened to see these Atkins meals in the frozen food section and they are LOADED with protien. Meat and Veggies is pretty much all that is in there. Are there too many preservatives? GMO's? I dont know what Disodium guanylate or disodium inosinate are. My focus is always on freshly prepared food, but sometimes I need a little help from the frozen section. Please give me your opinions. Is this the best of the frozen food options?

With programs like Atkins, there is going to be processed food involved. With that, it's completely up to you on whether you want to consume it or not. It still has the same amount of calories and protein, so if you're looking to up your protein, why not?

I have seen the new Atkins meals and they look pretty decent, however they are very expensive. I find it much easier and less expensive to make quick meals with frozen veggies you can microwave quickly, and cook some diced chicken or beef ahead of time and split into portion sizes and keep in fridge or freezer til you need a quick meal. In the time it takes to microwave a packaged meal, you can have a fresh made meal with more food and less cost.

You can even find diced, cooked chicken in the frozen section that you can quickly heat up and add to salads or steamed veggies.

Probably the sodium in prepackaged meals are the biggest culprit. But if you don't have a problem with sodium, or the cost, and the convenience is worth it, go ahead and try the Atkins meals. Let us know how they taste!

Instead of the expensive frozen food section, why not wander over to the rotisserie section and get a roasted whole chicken. Then go to the dairy section and get some Greek yogurt, cheese and eggs. Then go to the canned goods section and get some cans of tuna.

I'm confused. If you are willing to buy frozen, why not just buy frozen precooked meats and frozen vegetables. Why buy prepackaged premium priced meals?

I agree with fruttibiscotti, eating foods as close to it's natural state seems to be the better choice. Especially if you follow the clean eating plans.
