  • That was a really good idea. What did you end up putting in it?

    Eureka, I’ve done it!

The only down side is that it really does resemble canned dog food, not very appetizing but it tastes like raspberry chocolate so that works.

I call it the Life Bar, All the nutritional requirements of life combine in one convenient bar*. TM patent pending ;)

    Picture276.jpg

What you are looking at is 1/12 of the recipe, I cut up the recipe and placed it into 6 containers for Monday. *Each recipe makes 6 Life bars, a one-day supply. The recipe is a 40/30/30 balance of carbohydrates, fats and protein and contains 1200 calories, 131g carbohydrates, 40g fiber, 43g fats and 102g protein.

I’ll let you know if I survive until Tuesday, ha!

That's gnarly! Do you taste the spinach in it?

OMG...I don't know what to say...you definitely set out to find something easy in exchange for a meal and looks like you've created it. Not sure I could eat something like that as a meal 6 times a day as I'm pretty visual..... I like a variety of colors in veggies etc. But I do understand the ease of "The Jetsons" theory on eating some of you brought up, because meals can be a hassle sometimes when there's so much else to do in life.

Be interesting to hear how the day goes for you!

I see you've got the TM pending on it, smart Girl!

Breakfast is done, it tastes good but the consistency and colour are distracting, I may have to eat the rest of the meals with my eyes closed.

No you can’t taste the spinach. I tried that theory about a year ago after reading about “green smoothies” here on MFP. Try making a smoothie with frozen mango, frozen blueberries and a cup of spinach. You can’t taste it b/c of the sugar in the mango and frozen blueberries make the smoothie dark purple rather than green. If you use fresh blueberries you will get a freckled greenish colour which isn’t pretty. Perfect to get some nutrients in your day even better if you are a parent and need to hide veggies in your kids food.

    * I used water in my spinach smoothies so 0 cals. In this Life Bar creation I used milk and diet cranberry juice to get the perfect nutritional balance.

Can you let us know the exact recipe? I would like to make it to see if my husband will eat it.

LOL! You get points for creativity!

I'm not sure I'd be a fan of human dog food. I like variety and fresh foods too much!
  • bump: Kinda interested in how this will turn out!

Thanks for all the support everyone but its back to the drawing board for me. I made it through 4 servings yesterday but just couldn’t eat it anymore come dinnertime, I feared my gag reflex would give out on me, lol ;)

The colour and consistency was just too much to bear although the actual taste was good.

I made a raspberry/blueberry smoothie today with milk and tofu to use up some of the package from my experiment and wow, tofu is nasty isn’t it? Everyone argues that it takes on the flavor of whatever you are eating but that is so not true, it still has a taste and a little too much wiggle to be palatable. Luckily the package only cost $1 so to the trash that goes, lol!
  • This was epic! Keep trying!

you are so funny! This experiment is hilarious and I still am in awe that you thought of it, and actually went through with it.
  • this was awesomely entertaining.

so what are you going to try next?

Hahaha you are so awesome. I have thought such things but was never so bold as to try. I'm curious to see your next adventure.
  • Vega makes protein drinks that pretty much have everything your body needs and they taste pretty good. I bought mine at Sprouts Grocery Store. I bought the Vega Health Optimizer. You can google it and find their website. Hope that helps!

    Thanks so much guys!!

My next plan is to try and make this bar as a baked-good rather as a gelatin product. I'll add whole wheat flour and definitely take out the tofu for taste-sake (maybe I'll add more almonds or something for protein). I'll look at a cake recipe from scratch and use the basic ingredients to make it rise and such like egg beaters and baking powder and then see what else I can stuff in. My blender will still be necessary to avoid spinach chunks. Mmmm spinach chocolate cake, sounds great doesn't it? HA!

Thanks for the vega protein suggestion. I took a quick look at it, it’s quite costly at $75 a jar but I guess I would have to see how many days that would last. If it was $7 a day or so $210 a month is probably fair for the convenience of it.
  • Heather,

I've actually been looking for a dog food looking substance that is nutritionally balanced for a human. Not to market it, just for a personal experiment. Is there a possibility that you'd be willing to give me the recipe that you've decided is unpalatable? The one in those bar pics that have been floating around? Thanks. =)
  • Heather,

You mentioned spinach, blueberries and mango, would fresh spinach be alright or does it need to be frozen? or would frozen just not work at all? Also will any fruits work or must it be in that combination?
