Does anyone know why there is no calorie burn value attached to strengthening exercises? I am do 4x 30 day challenges and they use energy but when you log things like push ups and tricep dips there is no calorie value gained.

Mostly because there is no "good" way to know what you did while strength training. However, you can get an estimate by using the cardio tab, finding strength training and entering the time spent. MFP will then estimate your burn and add it to your diary.
ETA: You can continue to log your work outs in the strength training tab and then use the cardio tab for calories.0 -
You can log "strength training" in the cardiovascular section (click on add exercise and look for strength training) to count calories burned, then log the actual exercises in the strength training section.0
