Vitamix - reviews, do you use to make bread?

I recently watched a demonstration of the Vitamix 500 and was very impressed and like the idea of eating healthier. I read some past posts about this but wanted to find people who didn't want one but already had one and if so, if you thought it was worth the money. Also, the blender is supposed to be able to chop nuts, etc. to make your own flour which would be very helpful on a paleo diet.
Does anyone have firsthand experience with one of these blenders?
If so, what model?
Was it worth the money?
What do you use it for - only smothies, soups or do you use the dry grains container to make flour or breads?
Did you buy new or a reconditioned model? (Vitamix sells reconditioned models as well as new and both have the 5 year warranty - for the price I'm wondering if anyone has experiences with the reconditioned models).

I just got my VItamix 7500 under counter model and it's so quiet. Most of the blenders are very loud. In order to blend up nuts you have to buy the "dry container" extra. ($144) I will get that later as I want to be able to mix dough and grind nuts, etc, also. It was a toss up for me whether to get the Blendtec or this one. I am very happy with this blender. You have total control over the pulsing and speed which makes blending up anything easy. It does a great job. I got mine on QVC in 6 payments so that I could afford it. If you really want one -- this is a great way to buy it.0

I have a Vitamix and purchased the extra container. I do make my own oat flour, grind flax seeds, chia seeds, etc. I use it for something every day. In the summer when I get organic greens from my CSA, I throw them in and make a great green smoothie. I also make almond milk with raw almonds several times a week.
Really cannot imagine eating/preparing what I eat without it.

Buy a Ninja. Does everything a Vitamix can do for a fraction of the cost. Mine can pulverize granite if I wanted it to.

$600 for a Vitamix, or $100 for a Ninja?0 -
I bought a used Vitamix 2 years ago, and it's still going strong! Even the used models, if you buy directly from Vitamix, come with really long warranties. I don't use mine to make bread, but I do use it to make lots of smoothies, nut butter, and nut milks too.0

I LOVE my Vitamix. We literally use it at least once a day, if not more. It makes the smoothest, creamiest shake and smoothies for breakfast, and then I often will use it again if I'm making a cashew cream for a recipe (which I do often, being vegan). I didn't buy any extra container, but we still use it to grind oats and nuts into flours and it works fine.0

I have one of the first vitamixes..over 12 years going.. Love it.. I also have a ninja and can tell you that a ninja doesn't do everything a vitamix can...
If you just want smoothies then a ninja might work but if you want to make other things invest in a vitamix.0 -
I have the 2500 model and have had it for about 7 years. It had been worth every penny we paid for it! I regularly use mine for smoothies and nut butters but I have ground grain in it on occasion. If you're only going to use it for occasional grain grinding it will be fine but if you're looking for finer flours you would be better off getting a mill. I don't eat grain anymore so it doesn't bother me. I have a recipe for Almond flour Waffles that I use the vitamix for and I love them! The recipe calls for Almond flour but I just weigh out my almonds and blend them with the liquid in the recipe. Much cheaper than the flour and my waffles are excellent!
I have had minor issues with my blender (the jar, not the base) and vitamix's customer service is excellent! They took care of me quickly and at no cost to me.0 -
Thank you everyone! I think I will talk to my husband about looking further into this. Appreciate all the input.0
