Why does it feel like someone beat me up after I work out?

Seriously it feels as if someone beat me to a pulp. I thought working out was supposed to make you feel good after? Well that is not the case for me. I have lost 25 lbs and feel good about myself so far but even in then when I am done working out I feel like I had to drag myself through the workout. My muscles are sore and my body is in terrible pain. Is this normal to be feeling worn out after a workout? I want to feel good like everyone else but each day I have to be like ok when is the workout going to be over this is torture. So yea I lost 25 lbs but I had to push myself through the pain and soreness of my body and muscles to get there. I work out 6 days a week and Sunday is my day off from working out. Have you been through something similar? Advice is appreciated thanks.

What is your gym routine? Are you lifting all of those 6 days?
I would suggest switching to a 3 day program. It sounds to me like you're not allowing enough rest time, and if you keep pounding the workouts without rest it's going to feel like someone beat you up. Plus, the real work is actually done during rest so I would suspect that you're not even getting the results you could be with less gym time.0 -
If you haven't been doing it very long, then it's natural for you to be sore at first.
Could be that you need more rest time as the previous poster suggests. Try mixing in some cardio days.
Make sure you are feeding your body properly and drinking your water. You could be feeling fatigue from missing nutrients.
Good luck!0 -
Your body has to adapt to working out first...Start out slow, make sure you are getting proper nutrition ( esp protein ) and gradually increase the intensity/time of your workouts.. Also rest0

Muscle pain = good (unless sharp pain which renders you immobile).. you'll break through that
Joint pain = bad
Also, DRINK MORE WATER!!
try 2-4 gallons a day, bet you feel better0 -
This is not my experience. I don't get DOMS until AFTER a workout. Even if I try to workout while having DOM's they subside soon into my workout. I'm not sure why your pain would last your entire workout. If you suspect an injury, I'd look into that before "pushing through".0

Without seeing your exercise schedule any reply is going to be meaningless. However, I'll give it a go:
1) You're probably caught in the trap of exercising more than you need to and not getting enough recovery time. Or:
2) you're not getting enough sleep to recover. Or:
3) you're too stressed out by another part of your life. Or:
4) you're not eating enough to support your activity level. Or:
5) Combination of any 2 or more of the above factors.
without more info, we'll never know.0 -

Thank you for the kind responses everyone. What I will say is this. I work out 6 days a week taking Sunday as my off day but will most likely have to take a break in between by working out every other day instead of everyday for 6 days a week. My workouts are like this- one day I lift weights for my workout then the next day I do cardio stuff like running or jump roping and I have biggest loser workout DVDs so I use those from home as well. But I always change it up so its one day wight lifting for an hour and the next day its cardio for an hour. Sometimes I work out for an hour and a half if I am feeling like I have more energy or something.
I always make sure to get my full 8 hours of sleep and I always try to get more if possible. I am busy with school and work full time so yes stress can be a factor here but I always thought working out was a way to release stress not cause more of it? About eating I am not sure since I usually eat 5 smaller meals a day and am always trying to eat more veggies in my diet.0 -

that sounds about right.
usually I'm not eating enough- or I'm not sleeping enough. That's almost always my big flaw. I'm over doing it- and not resting enough. Period.0 -

Nah, we mean specifically. What is your lifting program? What is your cardio program? Sets, reps, intervals, etc...
How long have you been doing your current work load?0 -

Everyday I start with my half hour of jump rope. I set the ipod on timer and get to it. But what changes is what I do everyday so one day I will pick a workout from the biggest loser set I have (they are about 40 minutes each) and I just do one or I may just do running for half hour to 40 minutes if it is not too cold outside. The workout dvd's consist of pushups, jumping jack, situps, crunches and other similar exercises. On the days I do not work out the dvd workouts or running then I do weight lifting. For now I am at about 25lb weights and I do 12- 15 reps taking a rest of 30 seconds in between.0 -

The pain I get is usually right after a workout. Usually during my workouts my legs tire out fast and my arms are very sore as well but the bulk of the pain is after my workout when I sit down to relax for a bit is when you start to feel the pain. I am also with the previous poster on what is doms? Thanks again0 -
DOMS is delayed onset muscle soreness. It really sounds like you need an extra rest day because you're pushing too much too fast.0

Sounds like you're fairly new to exercising at this volume.
And you need to list stats: actual amount of calories consumed a day (you could, for example be eating 5 salads a day and netting nothing). Height, age, weight.
After viewing you subsequent responses I'm guessing (and it's only a guess) that you are eating far below your TDEE. You're exercising at a volume that you haven't built up sufficient endurance/conditioning for yet.
Stress and sleep can play a factor here, too, but I'm going with not enough food for the activity level and not enough time spent at a lesser volume of exercise before jumping to this amount. You have to build up to a large volume gradually.0
