Hi,
Just started 30DS last week and 4 days in injured my knee. I have ordered an elliptical trainer but gotta wait a couple of weeks for delivery.. I am looking for alternative workout ideas with knee injury..
Should I just continue with 30DS and avoid the jumping and lunging? I am a FT mum and cannot spend a lot of time working out.. I really wanna continue 30DS coz with just 4 days I can see some inches going for good.. Any suggestions pls..

What kind of knee injury do you have?
I ruptured my ACL back in November and it's been hard for me to find alternative exercise. I've been doing the elliptical and bike for cardio. What's tough is that I can't put the tension on very high because it strains my knee so I need to spend more time doing cardio to burn calories. It's forced me to watch my diet more.
I've been working with a personal trainer and we've been doing kettlebells and weight training. Lunges and squats might depend on what kind of knee injury you have. My trainer says that lunges and squats are okay for my particular injury as long as I focus on technique. If my knee is out of line with my foot I risk further injury. This means that if I'm too tired to do the exercise properly I need to stop.0 -
My injury is just wear and tear from a sudden strenuous workout.. and the fact that my joints are still weak from pregnancy..0

Is that what a doctor diagnosed your knee injury as? Or what you yourself have said it is? There are knee injuries that only need a few weeks or rest to heal up, there are knee injuries that will get better with physical therapy, and there are injuries that are going to require surgery to fix. Get yourself to the doctor, a referral to Physical therapy/physio, and focus on healing that knee.0

That is exactly what my doctor said.. he said I might just need a couple of weeks rest.. I am just looking for alternatives for the meanwhile..0

Then I'm going to repeat the suggestion to get to physical therapy/physiotherapy. "general wear and tear" isn't really specific, and most people would be very uncomfortable making suggestions without knowing exactly what's going on in your knee.0

I'm about 9 months post injuring both of my knees with 30ds... for the first 5 months or so, I couldn't bend my knees past 90 degrees, even if I didn't have any weight on them. It was so awful. I'm still dealing with the pain. I think the jump lunges are what got me... I've since said goodbye to Jillian. Lots of folks get knee injuries from her videos-- and I've learned that you don't have to torture your joints to do really strenuous, healthy cardio exercise.
Anyhow, I had a lot of success with cycling after that. I set up my road bike on an indoor trainer and played video games while I worked out! Haha! It seems like cycling would be hard on the knees, but as long as the frame is the right size and the seat is in the right position, it is actually great. Even when my knees were at their worst, I could cycle with no pain.
Feel better!!!!0 -
Trust me, knee injuries shouldn't be taken lightly. Had mine been taken seriously when it first started, I probably wouldn't be in the position I am today. "Wear and tear" sounds like BS to me. You should try to get another opinion, probably from a specialist.0

I don't usually respond to exercise questions but if you just want to rest your knee and still get your heart rate up look at modified jumping jacks and suck . I couldn't jump at all in June and July because I was so obese and these really got my heart rate up ..20 minutes used to just kill me. Maybe this will help you and I hope the pian subsides because I would feel devastated if I couldn't exercise at this point . Good luck.0

My doctor suggested cycling too.. I have ordered a 2 in 1 cross trainer and bike.. so I might put that to full use when it arrives :happy:0

I agree with the suggestion to get a second opinion. It's important to know what is going on with your knee. My injury was a complete rupture but at the beginning, doctors kept telling me that it might just heal up on it's own. After an MRI we found out that I actually need surgery and a complete replacement.
I've had to stop doing so much... No more kickboxing, running, spin class, or group exercise classes. I don't have the knee rotation and every time I fall, I risk further injury.
The person who suggested physio is probably bang on. Doctors are good at diagnosiging but a physio could probably tell you what you can and can't do and help with muscle development.
Take it easy with a knee injury and don't push too much. I definitely couldn't do a Jillian Michaels video right now.0 -
Will definitely get an appointment with a physio.. Thanks for the suggestions ppl!!!0
