what's best to eat

I'm completely clueless when it comes to eating right , I don't cook and kind of on a budget can anyone tell me what would be best to put on my shopping list?

The same things you were eating before, but less of them? Pick out a recipe that looks simple & easy and start learning to cook? I don't know, it's hard to say when we don't know what kind of foods you like.0

Not sure what kind of plan you are on or what you like to eat. One tip is frozen veggies, typically cheaper than the fresh variety. Also can take advantage when there is a sale and buys lots and store. Frozen vegetables have had their nutrients preserved during freezing process.0

Shop around the edges of the grocery store to buy real food. Minimize the boxed stuff from the middle aisles.
My general rule of thumb is the closer it is to the state it was grown in, the healthier it's likely to be.
That said, IMO if you don't allow yourself the things you love, you will lose interest quickly. Just make room for them in your calorie budget and log them.0 -
It depends on what you are doing for exercise. Are you strength training. If not, then why not?
Focus on getting sufficient protein, fat, and fiber, and eat a variety of vegetables and fruit to make sure you get sufficient micronutrients. That's it. All of that is actually countable on MFP so you know what you're getting. The clean eating, eat from the edge of the grocery store, oh you can't eat this or that crap is just that, crap.0 -
Protein, whole grains, veg, and fruit. Pretty simple, but it does the trick.
Really all that matters is that your caloric intake is in line with your goals. You can still eat what you love, just make sure it fits into your day.....proper portion size and you're good to go.0 -

Many of us started in the same place. If you strength train and get adequate protein then the vast majority of the weight you lose will be fat. If not then you will lose a good deal of muscle mass in the process. So yes, right now okay, but start looking at resistance training.0 -

I second this-frozen veggies are a great alternative to fresh, especially in off growing seasons where the fresh stuff has to be transported across the country.
Otherwise eat what you enjoy, just watch portion sizes and stay within your allotted calories0 -
Try to just work on creating a balanced plate. 1/4 complex carb (like brown rice or yam) 1/4 lean protein (like ground turkey or chicken) and 1/2 vegetables (the greener the better) and add a little healthy fat such as coconut oil or avacado
Shop in terms of one plate and prep a few meals and you will get the hang of it in no time0 -
