cabbage soup without the diet

Okay, so I'm guessing basically everyone here has heard of the "cabbage soup diet" or "miracle soup diet" or whatever you call it.

I think 7-day fad diets are pretty stupid most of the time, but I think a lot of the soup recipes seem okay--it would be an easy way to get extra water and vegetables, or to have when you're hungry but don't have many calories "left" in the day to stay within range of your goal.

So my question is: are any of those soup recipes especially good? I've never had onion soup mix, which seems to be in a lot of them. From looking at the ingredients, most recipes seem to be okay but bland. Do you have other favorite low-calorie soup recipes?

Soup is a great food and you can make some really good soups at home by just throwing a bunch of stuff into a slow cooker. I like to chop up whatever veggies I have in the frig, cube some meat or even use hamburger, onion, dried beans or peas, maybe some rice, a few potatoes, can of tomatoes, some spices and let it simmer away.

You really don't need a recipe and onion soup mix is a bag of salt pretty much. It's a great way to use up your leftovers too.

My boyfriend will do the cabbage soup diet for the 7 days and follow it to the T. The 2nd day he will get a massive headache and after a day it will go away. He does get a bit cranky. After the 7 days he will lose between 10-14lbs. After he starts to eat food again, he puts the weight back on.

I use the fat burning cabbage soup recipe from allrecipies.com and like it. I don't follow that diet, I just make it and have lunches fir the week tHat are low calorie and filling. I think the diet itself is a fad and just that.
