5ft2 chubby and Vegetarian

Hey everyone so as my title says I am 5ft2 ,20 years old and 149 lbs.
I think for my height I'm probably meant to be between 100-125 lbs to be healthy, but to be honest I'm only really aiming atm for 130lbs.
As a black girl I think curves are a lot more celebrated so I don't mind having a big butt and boobs tbh but....last year was not good I started to develop a food baby . I was in a crazy relationship and fell into the habit of comfort eating and just doing nothing AT ALL.
Now as of 2014 I'm back in college and will be starting university in September (fingers crossed). I have started going to the gym and am burning a measly 120 calories per week lol
Any advice on exercise/DVDS and easy vegetarian/vegan meals would be greatly appreciated!!! PS. I'd love to make some friends on here who may or may not be in the same situation as me. xx

Hi - I'm vegan and have somewhat similar measurements - 5'4" and about 135 lbs and trying to get down to 125 lbs. Did you lose a bunch of weight when you first went veg? I remember losing 10 lbs in the first month without even trying. But soon after, I discovered that Oreos are vegan. And so are Nutter Butters and Vienna Fingers. And potato chips. And french fries. Long story short, I put the weight back on and then some.
I do know some good veg*n recipes that don't pack a lot of calories, especially soups. I'm pretty new here and need to look around some more, but I will probably post recipes at some point.0 -
Your thread title also describes me! I am 5'2" 154lbs and newly vegetarian (Jan 1st). I'm also attempting to teach myself to cook lol. My biggest problem is nutrition because of the aforementioned lack of cooking skills and love of all thing convenience.

With such a relatively small amount to lose, your goal should be set to lose .5 lb. per week.

Hiya omg yes I was slightly underweight for so long but I went veggie when I was 15 so tbh I never really had to worry about weight gain. Lol about the Oreos (they are delish) I had the same problem when I moved out, suddenly I found out not only were there lovely sweets I could still eat , but I also had the luxury of not having anyone see me be greedy.

Aww congrats on being newly veggie!! It can be hard being newly veggie and not having much cooking skills. But one of the things that helped me alot was the quorn range. There brilliant for chicken/mince and chicken nugget replacement. Having those with salad is a pretty easy way to start. Il definately add thanks0

Quinoa is your friend. So easy! I cook mine in organic low sodium vegetable broth, and throw in some broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, onions, carrots, Brussels sprouts, whatever Vegis I have on the fridge. Fool proof, filling, low calorie!0

Congrats on realizing that you have a goal. I'm 5'0" and now ~125 with a low of 116 but when I started I weighed 163 lbs. Being short you'll find that a little bit of weight looks like a lot in some places.
Being vegetarian isn't an obstacle at all. Scaling back on processed foods and breads can help. I have a few recipes in my arsenal that qualify, just replace butter and stocks for vegetable oils and vegetable stock. Sorry if I miss things that you don't eat.

Hello ... Same here, I'm 5'2". I became vegetarian in 2001 (vegan in 2004) and the weight fell off and stayed off for 9 years. It was so exciting researching and discovering such wonderful healthy food (lentil, chickpeas, brown rice/veggie curry for instance). When my mum died 4 years ago I got severe depression and the weight piled on with new dreadful eating habits. I started eating cheese again, cakes and family-sized packs of potato chips! Looking forward to turning that back around now and going back to vegan. We can do it :-)

I'm 5ft 3" and am at 145lbs. Would love to get to 132lbs.
Congratulations to those turning vegetarian - not easy. I have a lot of admiration of those converting. I have been brought up a vegetarian so it is easy for me, but am trying to cut dairy out of my diet and am finding that so difficult.
Have just discovered bulgur wheat - used to make tabouleh salad - but I have also just added it to a normal salad.
I was looking for some high protein low calorie vegetarian food when I came across this post.
A couple of ideas:
Mung beans - as a daal or even boiled & then salt, pepper, hint of turmeric and chopped coriander, tomatoes, onions & cucumber on top - makes a nice lunch.
Red lentils (masoor) - in a soup or indian style daal.
Mung beans need to be soaked overnight & then bolied. Red lentils cook fast.

I agree, Quinoa is an excellent choice of protein and is a better substitute for white rice, pasta etc. I have found millett to be a great
substitute as well. It costs so much less which is a bonus, and same amount of protien, 1/2 the fat and almost the same in vitamins. Great to have cooked in fridge to add to assorted vegetables or soup. Beans of course are great as well and dried ones can be cooked in a big batch and frozen for later use. Good luck0 -
Hello, I have been a pescetarian (vegetarian but occasionally eat fish and consume fish oil capsules) for over ten years and I am always looking for vegetarian recipes. I found this chili recipe as its still winter here in Texas and just didn't add the chicken or chicken broth and it was sooooo yummy and like really good for you. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/white-bean-chicken-chili/ Also I think a lot of good recipes are made that contain meat and so I just think about what sounds good- lasgna, chili, tacos, etc and just forgo the meat and I never feel deprived. It's also great for breakfast but cook a plain batch instead of using broth. 1/2c Quinoa, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp maple syrup, and a banana. I cook a bunch on Sunday and portion it out for the week, that way I just have to add the syrup, cinnamon, and banana in the morning.0 -

Oh my gosh! You and I couldn't be more in the same boat. However, I'm 155; not 145. But I am also 5"2, I have also been a vegetarian since I was 15, and I am also starting college this fall. I agree with you about maintaining my curves, but I definitely need support to help me avoid the freshman 15. :laugh:
