20km cycling

HI All
I will be undertaking a duathlon in March, the running part i have no issues with and have been timed for the distance what I am not sure of is the cycling what time i should expect ( i have never times myself) so what time should i be expecting for a fairly fit male on a road bike?

    Hi, I ride 5-6 days a week, for 30-35 mins at about 38 km/h. In my case 20 kms = 30 min

Not really quick, but steady. I's hard to say how long it will take you to ride your distance because there are so many factors to take in to account. Are you a regular rider, wind, rain, road conditions, what type of bike you use, etc....I always say, I know when I leave, I never know when I arrive!

See if the race has prior years' results listed.
If they do, check if they have splits. That'll give you a decent idea for your age group.

For the closest big race near me, for my AG, the top finishers did between 25:00 and 28:00 for a 16 km bike. Which if I'm right is averaging between 38 and 34 kph.

had my first attempt at the distance and averaged 37kph which I don't think I would be able to maintain after running however i now have a base line to work from!

Jeez, 40km/hour is a very fast pace for the bike leg of a multi-sport race.
