Yes I have two toes affected by it...I now have good shoes a 1/2 size larger than I wear...lace them up not too tight not too loose. Only the right foot is a problem with two twos. Big toe and the one next to it have black/blue nails. I run about 4 miles at a time...give or take a mile either way. Advice??

Here is a good article by Jeff Galloway. http://www.jeffgalloway.com/learn/black-toenail/0

I've had one on my left foot that never really goes away.
My shoes are a full size bigger than I normally wear. I suspect my socks aggravate it.
I just live with it. The nail falls off and I pain the skin where the nail should be during the summer. It's gross, but not much you can do about it other than stop running and I'm not willing to do that0 -

Thanks...sort of what I am dealing with too...not willing to stop running either. Guess I will be painting skin too come summer! I did have someone tell me that the diabetic type socks help with lessening the aggravation of runners toe. . Bought some of the lowest cuffed ones I could find at Wal-Mart and they do seem to help it some. Not healing it but definitely not as aggravating as the socks I was wearing.0 -

Just read this...great info... Thanks!! It said to run in the shoe you are considering before buying it...that ought to be fun when I go to buy new shoes! lol. Getting some in the next few weeks. I wonder if he means run around the store inside or if he means actually hit the sidewalk out front! ? lol0 -
Once it's bruised the nail will fall of so you won't be able to tell how much the compression socks are helping until your nail grows back. You may want to up your shoe size one full size instead of just half a size or maybe find some wider shoes.0

I've tried everything and have found nothing to avoid them. The correct shoes, different socks, moleskin, bodyglide....nothing seems to help. I've pretty much given in to it and think it's related to the way I land. I usually have one and sometimes up to 4 (just one right now). I slapped a "toenails are for sissies" sticker on my bumper and wear mine with pride. lol.0

When I was visiting Missoula last year I went to Runners Edge to try on some shoes. They let me run outside in three different pairs of shoes; I believe they encouraged me to try them out.0

I'd go up a whole size. You should have a sideways thumb between your toes and the front of the shoe. Could it also be possible you have two different sized feet?0 -
Ive noticed that if the nail is too long and hits the front of the shoe it turns it black. I make sure that mine are cut short! If I find that its still somewhat rubbing I put medical tape across the top of them. Good Luck!!0

Don't think I have two different size feet but I can sure have them check when I go. Am definitely going to check out the whole size bigger though!0 -

Trimming the nails and keeping them short is so important! I have noticed this also. It will be painful if they are even a hair too long. Never thought of medical tape...may try that :-) Mine are not painful though...just ugly...lol0
