Losing 0.7 lbs a day

Hi
Age: 26
Height: 5' 8
Weight: 198 lbs
Gender: M

This is overall description of what I do and eat:
- Morning: as soon as I wake up, 20x heavy pushup, 300x rope jumping, 50x situps, some more warming up moves and jumps etc.
- Breakfast: a) Yogurt b) Boiled egg c) Fried egg with a little sausage d) Milk and cereals [I choose randomly from these options every day, I eat a little from all of them, like milk and cereals, I eat a little of them or for example sausage, it's just little piece of it]

- Launch: So low calorie foods, sometimes boiled spinach with yogurt and garlic sauce, boiled chiken breast, boiled potatoes with cheese. Again I eat a little of them.

- Afternoon snacks: Mostly I eat a lot of fruits, a lot of strawberries (like 15x), 1 apple and 1 banana, nectarin, etc. I eat fair enough fruits and sometimes I also drink fruit juices like carrot juice.

- Dinner: Mostly nothing at all, when I start to feel hungry and a little stomach sound and pain, I mostly again eat fruits or a lot of my own salad: Mix of chopped lettuce and chopped parsley with lemon juice sauce.

As my nickname says, I'm mostly sitting and working with computer, but every 3-4 hours, I again stand up and jump with invisible rope. I do fair good amount of workout, but each time not so long, each time 3-5 min, max. 10 min.

I noticed I'm already losing 0.7 lbs a day. Do you guys see any problem with it? I also have a multivitamin pill (One day men's health formula) and a ginseng pill.

So anyone noticed something wrong with my diet? workout? anything?
Thanks in advance!

First thing I noticed is that it looks like your daily food intake is less than 1000 calories per day. Why are you eating so little? That is dangerously low, especially for a 26 year old male.

You need to lose 31lbs right?

Please use this website correctly, put in your information and log your calories, starvation isn't a healthy way to lose weight and you will end up dumping a lot of lean muscle mass.

    Thank you both for replies.
    1) I forgot to mention I drink more than 2 liters of water everyday. Also I forgot to mention I don't eat any bread at all and never use any sugar with my drinks, for example I drink at least 3 glass of green tea a day, but without any sugar, not honey also.

    2) I started my workout and weight loss about 13 days ago and today I just joined MFP. I was exactly 202 lbs, now I'm 192 lbs after 13 days.

    3) Why do you think taking lower than 1000 calories a day is dangerous? But I eat eggs and chicken and a lot of fruits and drink too much water. Still dangerous?

    4) What is water weight you mentioned?

Yes...I see a problem...however...I checked and you are 28 years old...you should be able to see the problem with that.

How did you come up with this eating plan and workout plan?

What are you basing it on?

You don't need to cut any foods out to lose weight, it doesn't matter if you're eating chicken and fruit and eggs, your body cannot function on so few calories, it's starvation no matter how many vitamins you take.

I'm going to say it one more time and then I'm not going to reply anymore. PLEASE set up your profile and stick to the calories that MFP gives to you to eat everyday. All that is needed is a calorie deficit which My Fitness Pal will give to you when it sets your daily calorie goal.

Yes, I feel like I'm not getting enough calories, but I think I'm eating a lot of fruits and healthy food, I eat boiled chicken for protein, I eat fruits for vitamins, I also take 2 pills, I thought they'll cover vitamin needs. I checked my pill and it have a lot of %DV of each vitamin. I drink 2 liters of water, fruits and good amount of workout. Just maybe I'm losing weight faster than it should be?

I didn't read this plan from somewhere. I just reduced eating a lot and started to workout. That's all.

I have to agree with the others. Your cal intake is a bit too low for a man, even though you are making healthy selections. Just adding a little something to your dinner would help like some nuts/seeds or cheese to your salad.

You typically lose water and weight quickly in the beginning, which is nice for keeping up motivation to continue. Gradually your loss rate will decline, and if your body thinks it's starving, that will happen soner than later.

There's this thing called BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). It's the amount of calories your body needs just to function if you did nothing but lie perfectly still for an entire day. My BMR is currently estimated at about 1700 calories (I'm carrying extra weight after my second pregnancy). I'd bet because you're a guy who's 7 years younger than I am and slightly taller than I am, your BMR is probably higher than mine (I weigh about 200 lbs right now). In other words, you're cutting your calories well below what your body needs just to maintain its daily functions, ie, keeping you alive and healthy.

Keep in mind you are exercising, plus you get up and out of bed, presumably do things like walk around your home bathing, dressing, preparing food, eating, etc, you're doing more things that require calories.

When your body doesn't get enough calories coming in, it starts breaking down fat and muscle to sustain itself. When someone with your stats eats that little, it is the functional equivalent of starvation. You're just doing it a little more slowly than someone who decides not to eat at all.

I assure you that the outcome will not be good if you continue down this road. Your health will suffer and/or you will not be able to sustain it long-term, thus frustrating yourself. You'll be much happier if you eat more.

    Hmmmm.... OK!
Thank you all, I got the general idea, I thought if I go lower than 1000 calories a day, that won't cause a big problem and my body will use stored fat in my body somehow.

Anyway, seems like I got bad advises from friends.
About putting out information in MFP, I just registered in MFP 10 minutes ago! I'll start to put up information from now.

So, do you think I should go back to my regular eating habits? Eat anything that I see? Kidding...
I'll keep counting calories and try to match it up with MFP's daily calorie suggestion for me, let's see what I'll do.

Thanks anyway! I now know more

:flowerforyou: been there done that... I think alot of us more times then we'd like to admit fall into faulty thinking of we can speed things up by depriving our bodies ...but after awhile of following just a controlled healthly program on MFP you will see much better results if you eat what MFP tells you to eat for Calories...I lost a gallbladder with a low calorie diet...body doesn't like it when you starve it :ohwell:

Sorry to hear about your gallbladder... Thank you for telling me about my wrong diet in advance, now I have to kill some of my friends who gave me bad advises, funny part is one of them is my father!

As you said, a lot of people try to lose weight so rapidly, which I tried to do also after receiving those advises, but I'll never do that again. Let's lose weight healthy and properly. Cheers!

I am 61...I have more weight to lose than you do...I don't workout nearly as hard as you do...I still manage to lose on average 2lbs a week. I know that will slow down the closer that I get to goal weight.

I started about 5 1/2 months ago and it took me about 4 months to figure out what works for me.

My point is...find out what works for you...what doesn't leave you hungry...what you can live with for life.

Your meals sound a little boring for me. LOL I still eat pasta...pizza...cheese...in other words...anything that I want. I just eat those things in the amounts that will keep me satisfied throughout the day and that will meet my caloric intake goals.

I try for 80% healthy foods(fruits, veggies and lean meat) and 20% of those foods that a few would call "bad"(such as my pizza once a week).

You can have all those types of foods...you just have to eat them in moderation.

Thank you, it was good inspiration actually. I hope you lose all weight you want to lose, same for myself.

So it seems I should not make so big change in my eating habbit, but in fact, count calories, don't exceed an amount and do good enough exercise. I'll stick to this idea and plan and will keep up MFP with my activities, seems like losing more than 1-2 LB in a week, is not healthy. It will take a lot of time for me to lose all my belly fat, but it seems slower way is better!

Hi appcoder, commenting because I am basically your size- 27, M, 5'8", 188. For comparison's sake, I am eating about 1800 calories a day. Even at this level I am seeing a big drop at the beginning of logging food and being calorie conscious (about 7 lbs in 2 weeks), but from experience I know that this will level off into a slow but steady and consistent drop if I maintain good eating habits. In the past I attempted to be too restrictive (around 1400 calories) and I had trouble sticking to it long term- I now know because that simply wasn't enough food for me!

Nice to see someone else at basically the same point as I, with presumably similar goals. Everyone else has given pretty good advice so far- best of luck!

Thanks! Best of luck for you too. So you eat 1800 calories per day, what type of exercise you do and for how long? How many pounds you lose per week?

I have just begun my exercise program- I decided to get my diet in check and sustainable first (plus I got sick). My plan is to do 3 weight lifting workouts a week, and once I get used to that, maybe add additional cardio 1-2 times. I have made drastic changes before and been unable to make it stick. For example, I did p90x two years ago. Yeah, I got in great shape and got down to about 155lbs. But to do so I was working out 6 days a week for an hour a day. I got so burnt out that once I was finished, I couldn't be bothered to keep up a realistic eating and exercise maintenance schedule- and I let the weight come back. I've been through cycles like this 3 times since I was 22.

So now I'm not interested in a program- I want a lasting lifestyle change. To me that means slow and sustainable improvements to my diet and activity level. I can't eat 100% clean forever and ever, but I can hit my calorie and macro targets 6 days out of 7 every week. I can't do something like p90x for the rest of my life. But I can lift weights for 45 minutes 2 or 3 times a week for the rest of my life. Cardio is great, but resistance training can't be beat for maintaining existing muscle mass and reshaping a body. Looks and body composition are my goals as opposed to a scale weight.

The 1800 calories is somewhere around my BMR and is probably not enough once I'm exercising regularly- I'll either have to up that or make sure to eat back my exercise calories. Based on previous experience, now that I've dropped most of my water weight I anticipate losing around a pound a week until I hit about 170, at which point the scale weight changes slow down and I see more progress in terms of how clothes fit and body composition. I'll re-evaluate my goals as I go along, but right now the plan is to get to the 160lbs range. Hoping to do so by July 1st or thereabouts.
