Could never have pet pig, would feel too guilty while eating bacon and pork chops, and already borderline given my no eating intelligent species rule....

"The nation’s largest meat producer [Tyson] says it has terminated its contract with an Oklahoma farm after NBC News showed the company undercover video of workers on the farm kicking, hitting and throwing pigs and slamming piglets into the ground."

"Another common cause of death [of pigs] is ulcers caused by the stress of living in the barns. The pigs' stomachs had large, bloody holes where the pigs had bled to death."

"The manager often killed sick pigs by beating them in the head with a metal rod and a hammer. The video shows the pigs crying out as the rod comes down again and again on their heads and backs. After beating one pig to death, the manager laughed and told our investigator that he shouldn't let anyone see him doing that. On another day, the manager took a pig by his hind legs, swung him into the air and slammed his head on the hard floor."

Just remember those statements when you joke about pigs and bacon. It would be far more civil of you to raise a pig as a pet and then humanely kill and process it as opposed to buying bacon at that store. Unless you're buying bacon at Whole Foods where producers must meet strict standards, your bacon likely comes from a tortured animal.

Trust me, I'm well aware all of this, and yes, some part of me feels bad eating pork, just not bad enough to stop, and I do try to humanely source when I can...but honestly, if we can't laugh at our failings then what's the point? I make what changes I can and that I feel are important and don't beat myself up over the stuff that I have very little control over, i.e. what some subhuman does to animals because he can.

I support your attempts at humanely sourcing, but you do have to see the irony in your statements:

-"part of me feels bad eating pork, just not bad enough to stop"
->you care, but not that much

-"I do try to humanely source when I can...but honestly, if we can't laugh at our failings then what's the point?"
-> if you can't humanely source it, don't eat it. It's not that difficult. I am, however, pleased that you can laugh at yourself for not feeling "bad enough to stop"

"i.e. what some subhuman does to animals because he can"
-> which is paid to occur by people who don't feel "bad enough to stop" eating inhumanely produced food

I'm not one to preach, but your responses are ridiculous.

And your responses are why people who might be sympathetic to your cause if you approached them from a place of moderation, instead ridicule and shun your cause because of perceived extremism.
  • Cats are just as loving as dogs in their own way, I have my dog he is my kid , my son and has saved my life in many ways. My daughter lives with me and she has a boy cat which is my grandson. My daughter calls my dog brother , she is his big sister and treats her like her kid brother. Her cat is her son and she loves him with all she has. They are are children , our family and will be with us for the rest of their lives. In this world we decided as humans to make cat domesticated and dogs so its up to us to take care and protect the ones we have. They have a heart just like we have and I love my kids and grandson. Id give my life for any of them if it came to it.

Who needs a reason to like cats? They're little balls of cuteness!

I love both cats and dogs for different reasons. We have 2 of each.
One of our dogs just exists. She does nothing but lay around under a table wrapped up in her blanket. If you're eating she comes out from under the table. We only ever see her when she eats or needs to go out. She smells really bad no matter how much we wash her and she always tracks poo into the house on her feet and tail no matter how well groomed she is.
Our golden is my favorite dog ever. He is my walking partner. Love that dog like no other dog we've ever had. Gassy as all hell and can easily clear a room but the best dog ever.
Our 2 cats are completely different from each other. One we affectionately call "crack ho kitty". Her teeth are a mess, she drools all the time, won't let anyone brush her so she gets these long knotted masses hanging on her so we have to sneak up on her when she is sleeping and cut them off of her. If we do it while she's awake we risk getting ripped to shreds. She won't let anyone pick her up and only goes to my husband for some odd reason. He doesn't even like her lol. The other cat is a real sweetheart. You can sling her over your shoulder, carry her around all day, and she will sleep right up against you the minute you sit down. For some reason she only sits on my lap but that only lasts 2 minutes. She runs to the door like a dog whenever someone comes over and meows to welcome them. The two most social sweet pets we have are that one sweet cat and my golden. They are the same coloring so people always ask if we got them because they matched lol. If they lay side by side they blend perfectly together. And yes, they do cuddle together. 4 pets and 4 different personalities all together.
