Which brands should I look into if I want to avoid a chalky or gritty texture? It would also be awesome if it was tasty.

I would say step one is to lower your expectations on taste and texture, they're gonna suck vs real food no matter what you go with...
Muscle milk light in chocolate is one of my favorite tasting powders, but it's expensive and isn't the highest protein % you're going to find.0 -
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard is pretty good.0

I use Optimum Nutrition's 100% Gold Standard Whey. I like it's taste, and it mixes quite well. I don't think you'll find a powdered protein though that completely mixes with no clumps, unless you buy the Ready To Drink mixtures, but those are usually more expensive.0

I don't notice mine at all. I use whey protein isolate in vanilla from Vitamin World and mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Tastes like vanilla milk, no weird flavor or textures.0

Have you ever tried Vi Shape? Sweet cream taste and very smooth. That is if mixed in water, but I also made awesome shakes with Dark Chocolate Silk and a banana! You can make tons of concoctions, but mostly I am simple. As you know protein is Quality over Quantity and this has the best. A great place to research this is www.shake.vi.com because there is ton of info and a great video there. To purchase it you have to go to www.StartViNow.com and click Join The Challenge.0

For a straight whey, smoothie kings gladiator powders mix well and taste ok.
I have a tub of optimum nutrition gold standard chocolate whey, but it clumps in a shaker pretty bad. I use it in chocolate "proatmeal".0 -
Optimum Nutrition Cookies & Cream is really good. Even just mixed with water it tastes like chocolate milk.
Edited to add: Make sure you get enough fiber if you're going to be using protein powder regularly. It can constipate you pretty bad.0 -
I like Designer Whey Protein Powder, Chocolate. Have tried vanilla and strawberry and they are OK, but I like the chocolate best. Usually have it in skim milk.0

I Love Super Advanced Chocolate Peanut Butter, It makes great shakes.0

I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. Double Rich Chocolate. I like to mix it with 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup lowfat plain greek yogurt, and a tablespoon of raspberry preserves. So yummy! Oh, and I use a blender, not a shaker cup, so it's always blended smooth.0

Whole foods sells an "all natural" vanilla flavor packet that was pretty good. I have been eating the met-rx bars recently and like them the best.0

Spitutein Vanilla and Strawberry areyummy but high in sugar. I just tried Natural Grocers Vanilla with Green superfood blend and it is yummy, no weird texture and low sugar. I make mine with Almond Milk ......either Vanilla Unsweetened or Original.0

I really like my Body Fortress in chocolate flavor. Strawberry is tolerable, the chocolate peanut butter is very bad. I mix it with cold water and I don't think it is gritty or chalky at all. I am fairly cheap so I like the price, too.0

+1 I like the taste of Body Fortress Advanced Whey Protein-Vanilla flavor. Mixes well in milk, never tried it in water.0 -
I usually stick with Isopure - for taste, mint chocolate chip with some ice, Metromint spearmint water, and perhaps a splash of Torani sugar-free chocolate syrup is quite good in my opinion.0

Syntrax Nectar Chocolate Truffle. I mix 1 cup milk + 2-1/2 scoops (70 grams) protein powder + 11 grams Carnation Chocolate Malt Powder & fill the shaker bottle up the rest of the way with water. You'd never know you're drinking protein powder. It tastes like a really good chocolate milk/malt! And no lumps!0

Syntrax Nectar line. I dont like "milky" shakes - I prefer fruity ones. So I get their Very Cherry, Apple Ecstasy, Wild Grape, Fuzzy Navel etc flavors. I usually just use water, but sometimes I put a little coordinating juice in it (ie orange juice in fuzzy navel, apple juice in apple, etc). I use a blender ball and no clumps if you shake enough and wait for bubbles to die down.0
