Reward yourself?

Hello,
Do any of you set small goals and then reward yourself when you reach them?

    Hi,
I do that but my mini goals are based around events happening in my life.

    For example:

1st Feb my mother in law will be 60 so I will set myself a goal of losing X amount of pounds by that date and if I do it I will buy myself a new outfit to wear on the evening.

For me having actual things to look forward to rather than when I lose pounds I will do this... spurs me on more.
Mine include: birthdays (especially mine because I will be 30), nights out with the girls (I have not seen them in ages), day trips with my partner, holidays, New Years in London for 2014!!
  • Chezzie84 that is a great idea! Thanks for your imput. Appreciated!

I need to start rewarding myself. This journey is so emotional (to me) and to finally get to a goal weight is rewarding. Hmmm, I think I will reward myself for my 60lb mark. Thank you for the post

I love this, but I'm more of a progress than goal person when it comes to rewards. Along the way I've bought myself fitness related items, new clothes, etc. But not always at a specific point (like amount of weight lost).

However, I hit 199.6 this morning and I've been planning my "onederland reward" for several weeks now. I am replacing all of my makeup with new & different stuff I've wanted to try, coordinating makeup brushes, and a lucite organizer. I don't normally splurge in that area so it's a big deal to me :-)

I don't necessarily reward myself, but I do use events for my mini-goals. This helps me to stay on track, particularly over the holidays. Saying I want to reach a certain goal by my sister's visit, or Thanksgiving, New Year's, Valentine's, etc helps me judge whether or not I'm really doing well. When you think on it you might feel like you haven't lost a lot of weight or even feel like you're stalling. But then you remember "Hey, I set to lose 10 pounds by February 14, and I'm already halfway there. I must be doing better than I realize right now."

The big numbers I usually do something in addition though. 300 pounds I got a cheat meal (which also coincided with my birthday, so not really a cheat meal for weight goals). When I get to 250 I plan to get a bunch of new shirts because the ones I have are already starting to look weird at 280! Not sure yet what I'll do at 200 pounds. Probably get something sexy.

I've rewarded myself handsomely for meeting goals - every ten lbs. for me. My spending problem will be the next thing I address, lol.

10 lbs. lost got me a big candle from Yankee Candle
20 lbs. lost got me new pictures and a lamp for my office
30 lbs. lost got me a haircut with highlights (I've never colored my hair before!)
40 lbs. lost got me a new coat and comforter for my bed
50 lbs. lost (almost there) will get me a new wardrobe. It's my final goal, so it's the big one. (:

Yes I do. It is the same as doing a good job...
I get a raise, a bonus, or similar if I do a good job. Hollywood gives out awards to everyone. Sports teams give out awards. So it is time for us to reward ourselves also for good things we have done in our lives.

When I finish several articles for work, I reward myself with internets.

A process I've been using since high school... to mixed results.

Not always formally, but yes I reward myself for reaching my goals. It was my goal to reach a 11lb drop by Christmas, so I went shopping for Boxing Day sales (Canada's version of Black Friday) when I did. My clothes were loose enough that I needed cheap transition pants.

If I can hit the next 10lb marker by Valentine's day I am taking a 'full diet break' for 2 weeks and eating maintenance with no macro consideration. It coincides with my birthday, and when I normally take some vacation time so thats pretty motivating. I'm taking that break when I finally reach the marker, the date is motivation to keep on track.

10lbs after that I will go shopping again and reevaluate my goals since that point signals the final 5-10 which will get tougher to drop (and strength training might mean that I never do).

i havent rewarded myself with anything in particular. my reward is looking in the mirror. the compliments and attention. and the new shirts im fitting in to. my reward is knowing im that much closer to where i want to be. i do plan however to get an arm tattoo upon reaching my goal weight (which i have a range that i want to reach but not sure because i've never been not fat) but when i get there and if my arm looks good, i will reward myself with a tattoo.
  • WOW I love all the ideas. I AM going to reward myself! Not sure how yet but with all of your feedback I will figure it out! Thank you all!

    I like this plan also!

Sometimes I skip the medal and drink beer during the race. Looking to improve my PR in my second beer mile race this spring:
