Diet classes and calories

Hi all, i'm on and off this all the time but decided to get back into it. I recently started going to a diet class in my area, kind of a weight watchers style class. I am a bit dubious though as its a check system i.e. every 25 calories is 1 check but i'm only allowed 45 checks which equates to 1125 calories. Surely thats not enough calories to have a healthy weight loss? I was always told to eat at least 1200 calories which is whats given on here. Do you think its best to just stick to the 1200 and hope for good results?

Nope nope nope.
You have to fuel your body. 1200 is the bare minimum.
Though my question is--if you workout, do you earn more checks for the day? Or is it always 45 no matter what?0 -
No its 45 no matter what, exercise is to be included but it makes no difference to your intake.0

How awful - I didn't think anything could be worse than 1200 cals! Have you tried to figure out your TDEE? Try this calculator, with a 15% reduction (you don't have a lot to lose). http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
Definately do not eat below your BMR.0 -

That's very dangerous and will sabotage your weight lose. Way to keep a customer coming back for life, though.0 -
1200 cals is probably still too low for you depending on your height, weight, and activity level.0

Thanks for the calculator it says i should be eating 1500 to lose weight! Ha. Yeah i might bring it up in class then as i dont feel happy about eating less than the 1200 stated. Yeah no wonder people come here to get healthy!0

I'm 5'7 and 13.5 stone so it does seem a bit low but 1125 seems far too low!0

My goodness i'll definitely be having a word with her! I think i'll maybe do around 1400-1500 and see how i get on, thanks everyone x0

If you're at all active, it's nowhere near enough. The 1200 minimum is for a pretty short, very inactive female...most women need more than that if they're at all active to lose in a healthy way and maintain some muscle while they shed fat.0

I'm not sure what 13.5 stone is and I'm too lazy to google.
But I'm 5'7" as well and 1500 cals PLUS exercise cals is a good safe, sustainable method.
You do not need to ask anyone's permission to increase your calories to a healthy sustainable amount.0 -
Take a look at the links below to learn everything that you need to know. Take a couple hours to read them thoroughly and you will be miles ahead of the majority of 'dieters'. You will save yourself so much time and heartache. I would stay away from those meetings, as they are promoting an unhealthy and unnecessary lifestyle that is almost certainly doomed to failure.

Thank you so much i will definitely give these a read tonight0 -
Seems way to low, I recently got a fitbit and it tells mfp how many calories I have burrned throughout the day then tells me how many I need to eat. I eat about 1,500 and I set my goal to lose 2 lbs/week. On days I burn more I eat more, on days I burn less I eat less. Eating a set number of calories everyday doesn't make sense.0
