Better Choice for Alcoholic Beverage

Hi all,
I would like to have a drink at happy hour tonight and am wondering if there are lower calorie choices that people like. I typically drink red wine or a Shandy type of beer. I would consider hard liquor, but am not sure what else would be tasty for fewer calories... Who's thirsty?

I like Michelob Ultra. Its only 95 calories and low on carbs. I also like Pinot Grigiot. Its about 100 calories for 5 oz. Have fun!0

Vodka Martini Dirty. Or Vodka club soda, and a splash of cran for flavor if you need it.0
-
Bring some powder mix (crystal lite) in your purse and mix it in a vodka water. Low calorie and delicious!0

This. Or a vodka/diet coke - but the dirty martini is WAY better0 -
patron with soda water and limes (not lime juice!)0

Great suggestions! I have been thinking about how to do something with a splash of club soda or something that I will sip slower.0

I like rum & diet coke, diet sprite/ or diet 7-up with vodka, but a lot of restaurants are having skinny cocktails on their menus, so I've been having those when available alot of them are pretty good and about 165 calories.0

club soda with lime/lemon/cherries0

I drink vodka soda's with lemon and lime muddled in it. Low cal and tasty....like an adult sprite0
-
Nor-cal margarita.
White tequila, club soda, fresh lime juice.0 -
Is the patron option similar to a margarita flavor? Probably not as sweet...0

Here is a good chart showing how many calories are in what types of hard alcohol.
I like straight tequila with a few limes squeezed in and maybe a splash of cranberry juice for flavor.

Typically, it's the mixers that add the calories (sugar), not the alcohol. So you might be better off drinking a pint of beer rather than a pint of shandy (beer + lemonade). [Or maybe it's just the thought of adding lemonade to perfectly good beer that makes me wince ;-) ]
Straight liquor is going to have the fewest calories per unit of alcohol. Then wine, then beer, [edited for correctness 'cos I got it wrong]. Mixed drinks like a margarita will have the most.
Alternatively, just drink what you like - then log it and make it work!0 -
I started drinking Vodka with sparkling flavor water or even vodka with water and lemon or use Mio (you can squeeze in as much flavor you want.0

Flavored vodka with club soda. When I am at home I like bubble flavored vodka and diet sprite.0

LOL!! I used to do that all the time! It's so good.
My new thing right now is Grey Goose on the rocks with 2 lemon wedges and 2 Splenda packets. I ask the bartender to shake it a little after I've added the lemon juice and sweetener. Tastes like a lemon drop martini 2 of them are 120 calories and like 3 carbs each.0 -
I like vodka shots or Redd's Apple Ale (165 cal in 12 oz bottle)0

Alcoholic beverages are a treat. Just drink what you like and make sure it fits in your plan. Personally, I love red wine. When calculating calories, no one counts the fact that red wine has a way of preventing weight gain.
http://www.winespectator.com/webfeature/show/id/46689A new study finds that a chemical in red wine may prevent some of the fatty foods we eat from being converted into fatty tissue. The research, published in the March issue of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, found that piceatannol, a polyphenol found in grape skins and red wine, effectively blocks the formation of fat cells in the lab.0 -
blueberry stoli and sprite zero
vanilla vodka and diet coke
vodka and light lemonade (raspberry vodka and blueberry vodka both work well with this!)
wine
light beers
but light beers also have less alcohol so you need to drink more of them... so IMO liquor is the way to go if you are trying to consume the least amount of calories. Just make sure to drink a lot of water!0 -
We drink Beefeater Gin and Water, with a dash of Lemon Juice. It's refreshing and it's hydrating. If I'm out I drink Jack and Diet Coke, even though my partner gives me a hard time for drinking that 'dreaded aspartame'. If I feel like a Pint I drink Guinness, it's not the lowest calorie beer, but it's lower cal than most and it tastes satisfying, not like those watery 'low cal' beers.0

My drink of choice is vodka and tonic with a wedge of lime0

If I'm in the mood to drink it usually means I'm waaaaay past being concerned about calories. lol0

I have to try this. Thanks0 -
Thanks for the great comments. I had a Big Ginger (2 gingers whiskey) with a bit of ginger ale and a lemon and lime. It was great because it took a long time to drink. Thanks! I will keep these other options in my back pocket!0
