Detox

Not sure if this is the right forum, but anyway.
Girlfriend has decided to do a detox. Being the amazing boyfriend that I am I've offered to do it with her, to support her and help her through. Day four, I'm freaking starving. All I can think about is pizza, chicken, veg, pancakes, bacon, bacon, bacon.
Using MFP dieting didn't feel like a diet, but this detoxing malarkey [which isn't a diet, I know.. but I'm in a deficit and losing weight through it, although I'm sure afterwards I'll put it straight back on... then back to proper logging] is tough.
Once this is done I only want to see maple syrup or lemon on pancakes.
Anyway, bacon is detox food, right?

okay no offense but to support your GF make her understand detoxes are crap.
Now go eat all the Foodz with lots of bacon.0 -

^ THIS.
Teach her about proper lifestyle changes and not 'detoxes'. I think you should eat bacon.0 -
its funny I never heard of Detoxing or Cleanses before I joined MFP...Does she realize that she will put the weight back on plus more? Why doesnt she want to learn how to do portion control and do it safely? Ive lost weight the unhealthy way before....I commend you for being supportive but you can be supportive in other ways and talk to her about health and how itll affect her and it0

Yeah, neither had I. She wanted to try a short detox/cleanse before going back to logging, portion control etc. She does portion control and stuff and does that well and seemingly knows more about nutrition etc than I. This is meant to be about health rather than weight loss, I'm still not exactly sure what it's meant to be doing mind.
I thought I'd give it a go with her to see just how bad it is. Really feeling it today!0 -
As others have said, no offense at all, but detox's are a bunch of bull. Not only are you depleting your body of the nutrients it needs and craves, the moment the detox is over and you begin to eat solid foods again, your body hangs onto those calories like nobodies business!!! Detox's are now and have always been a terrible idea. I have learned the best way to lose weight is to eat six small, healthy meals a day. I would even recommend adipex-p for appetite suppression. It is a safe, prescription form of phentermine that when taking properly will bring amazing results. Good luck!!!0

^^ This...There isnt anything healthy about it. If shes so concerned about health then why not eat more nutrient enriched foods...Veggies, fruits, healthy fats, healthy grains ect more proteins...Nothing healthy about that way of going about things. Since Ive started I tried couscous, quinoa, eat more fruits more proteins....Dont take a vitamin but Im eating more healthier then before0 -
Unless you have liver or kidney failure, your body is perfectly capable of removing 'toxins'.
Most detox plans only serve to eliminate waste in the gut (often containing mild laxatives, herbal or otherwise) which would come out naturally sooner or later.0 -
A good boyfriend would tell his g/f that 'detox' and 'cleansing' are bad and that she's perfect...
Then order pizza and wings + beer0 -
As other have said Detox is a bunch of horse manure, you body has its own built in detox system it is called your kidneys. The cravings for food is understandable I got cravings and was about to crack even when I was just starting the caloric restriction of MFP, I talked with a friend that helped talk me off the ledge and remembered the old adage "mind over matter" I changed my mindset and made a decision to keep on track for my own well being.
If anyone is thinking about Detox or some other hocus pocus trust in something that is a bit more proven mathmatics. If your body uses X calories a day and you consume X-y that y has to come from somewhere and it will come from your body either glycogen reserves, then fat, then muscle.0 -
Thanks everyone - it all makes sense!0
