Skinny Fat Problems

Hello! So my problem is not exactly a dire one, but I would appreciate some advice. I am at a very healthy weight right now, between 123 and 127 (depending on the day) and 5"6.5 - so definitely not overweight. My body fat percentage, however, is quite high - around 26% according to my scale, and my trainer. I am really not sure how to go about losing the excess fat at this point - I do weight training, power yoga, a little cardio - I am at the gym 3-5 times a week. I feel like I need to switch things up, but I am at a loss as to how to do this! Any suggestions regarding a new exercise plan would be welcome!

I agree, eat at maintenance and lots of protein (about 110grams) and lift weights

Well, that is what I've been doing - eating at maintenance and lifting with my trainer - I'm not really sure what constitutes "heavy" lifting, I mean, I am not using 2 pounders but I'm not using 50's either. He says to plow ahead, I feel like I've given it a sufficient amount of time without seeing results and I was thinking I needed something new. I added in the power yoga more recently, maybe I need to give it a bit more time.

I will up my protein too and see how that works, although 110 grams of protein at my maintenance level will be hard!

If you want to build muscle you need to eat protein... I eat 150g/day and I'm in a caloric deficit. You just have to make it a priority.

Lifting heavy means that you are doing enough weight that you cannot do more than 6-12 reps. If you can do more than 12, the weight is too light.
  • I was working with a male fitness model / personal trainer that does meal plans. He was getting me ready for a photo shoot and had me on what he called a fat burning diet. I was eating nothing but proteins and greens. I saw a big difference in the way my body lost the fat.

"heavy" is a relative term, it basically means heavy for you

Ok, well if 6-12 reps is the rule, I am definitely lifting heavy. I guess I will just give it more time.
