alcohol consumption

Hey!
I've not been on this very long and looking for a bit of help. I'm generally quite a healthy eater and have improved my snacking greatly. My issue seems to be alcohol/cocktails. Every couple weekends I like to meet up with my friends and go for a dance or just to a bar but sometimes I feel this may be undoing my work. Does anyone have any helpful tips on what to do and not to do. I know I could simply not drink but I'm trying to find a balance. I work out 5 days minimum. Thanks!

Kirsty :)

Life is for living, you could try & stick to lower calorie booze, like vodka, but if pints of real ale are are your choice then just log the booze and cut down on the food for a day or two

You will not die from so called starvation mode, nor will your metabolism be ruined for ever

Plus you say you are dancing, thus calories are being used there, and maybe up your exercises?

Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum and Diet Coke is my poison of choice and a 1.5oz shot in a tall glass of Diet Coke is just 75 calories. Vodka and Diet Tonic is typically 66 calories for the same measure. I love real beer, not the light stuff, so I limit those to once a month or more but low-cal cocktails are a daily log item. I too work out 5 days a week minimum and I always have plenty of calories available for such an indulgence.

I drink once a week. Liquor and I don't get along so I stick to wine.

Booze isnt the devil. People have been drinking it for hundreds of years. If it becomes a choice of drinks vs. processed foods.... drinks win every time. Just moderate, once every two weeks is perfectly ok.

Do: Enjoy yourself and be responsible. Choose lower calorie drinks that you like - distilled liquors with light mixers (club soda, diet juice or soda, ice), wine, lighter beers. Be aware that craft and most dark beers may be very high in calories.

Don't: Use a buzz as a reason to over eat. Choose sugary mixed drinks such a pina colada and margarita.

Don't eat back your exercise calories and save them for your weekly alcohol allowance. I've not got the time right now to get a lot of exercise in, so when I'm under my calorie goal, I earmark those calories for my weekly alcohol.
