WOW!! That's all I can say

I have been using My Fitness Pal for a few days now. You just don't realize how the little things that you eat, the things that you think are not hurting anything, can add up over time. I go to my grandparents' house every Saturday to eat with them and sped some time with them. I made sure to log everything (to the best of my ability) that I are tonight. Needless to say, my caloric intake for dinner was off the charts, and this was me thinking I wasn't doing that bad. I have definitely got to find ways to cut back on my caloric intake on Saturdays. :-)

Yes it is hard when "social" events intrude. For me, that's when I do a bit more exercise. If you know that Saturday's are going to be tough, maybe add an extra 30mins of exercise on Friday, Saturday and Sunday?
  • Thanks!! I may have to do that. I had a rough night last night. We had a youth lock-in at the church so I was up all night, actually from around 5:47 a.m. yesterday until about 7:00 a.m. this morning, so I haven't done any kind of exercise today. However, I will hit the gym wide open on Monday morning. I wouldn't take nothing for the time I get to spend with those youth from the church...I love those kids so much!! :-)

The fact that you are logging everything is a GREAT START. The fact that you then looked it over and saw how many calories you ate is a big step to understanding what you need to do to get things under control.

Remember, your body might not care about day-to-day calories as much as it cares about over-time calories. If you eat more on Saturday, you can always eat less on Friday and Sunday. Many people here fast on a regular basis. That means you might eat even MORE on Saturday, and fast on Sunday, getting the same overall calories.

There are many ways to be sure you come in on your calorie budget. Skimping at granny's house does not have to be one of them.

Spending quality time with the Kids at Church is Worth a few Extra Long, Extra Hard Workouts at the Gym. Same with the time with your Grandparents. Maybe you could take some Fresh Veggies or Fruit with you when you visit them on Saturdays? It is never Too Late to create New Traditions with our Social/Family Activities.

It is amazing. The last dinner party I had nearly put me 2000 calories over goal. But I took it in stride and was still under goal if you averaged out the rest of the week. All good.

It is eye opening, isn't it? That is why I log even if it isn't going to be pretty! Others had some good suggestions though. Maybe cut back other days if you know you are going to eat more on Saturday or exercise more. I've really learned to see the correlation between what I eat and the calories I burn by using the tools here. If I know I'm going to splurge then I make sure to make that up somehow. There are times I go over for that day but it doesn't happen on a regular basis and that is what is important. Keep moving forward! :)
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! These are all great suggestions!! My grandma is an old country grandma and let me tell you, that thing knows how to cook!! What really hurt me today is we had steaks, baked potatoes, and green salad with all of the toppings. Then we have to drink some coffee and eat us some ice cream after all of that. :-) I will do better tomorrow and the rest of this week, so I'm not too concerned about it. I know when I did Weight Watchers they allow you to go over your daily points sometimes and you're still suppose to be able to lose weight. You may not lose as much as you would have had you not went over your points, but you still lose. I am glad that I did log it though because I am able to see areas where I could really limit things to make up for extra calories at dinner. Also, it does let you see how the little things really do add up.

That is one of the great things here. You realize how much is Really in some things, and other things are pretty darn good.

Welcome! Tomorrow is another day now that you know more.

Next visit, smaller portions and a workout before
  • So true, Nancy.
