I use both, the HRM will be more accurate, my fitbit helps me stay motivated, it also depends on what you plan to do, if walking the dog is your main exercise then the fitbit is good, if you are using cardio equipment or running etc then the HRM is essential.
I log food on MFP and exercise on fitbit as i have found it more accurate the 2 sync and I know where I am.
So to answer your question it depends on what you want it for - good luck on whatever you decide, there are plenty of threads on the best HRM's and activity monitors on here. I use a polar HRM and a polar rs300 watch and my fitbit is the flex model.0 -

My trackers showed me that the activity level I chose when I joined MFP was wrong. I have a desk job, but I walk 8,000 steps a day.

I also wear both. I love my Force unfortunately I've been sick since I got it! It really motivates me to take the stairs in my office building more often and walk around more. But for workouts, I really need my HRM to make sure I'm staying within my heartbeat range and to make sure I have the right # of extra calories burnt per week.0

Same for me. The force is very accurate (for me anyway) for activities such as walking/hiking. Today I wore both during a 90 minute hike to compare. The calorie burn difference was less than 5. I'm impressed with the Force, but unfortunately, it doesn't track other workouts well such as p90x, etc.0
