I'm looking to start making some shakes and just wondering which is better to buy, soy protein or whey protein... and why?

Personally I would go with whey. Soy protein is going to contain a LOT of isoflavenoids that mimic estrogen in the body.0

Unless you are lactose intolerant I would suggest whey.0

I recently went to "Spark Nutrition" which sells Herbalife shakes.... they were VERY yummy, however someone mentioned to me that they're soy based and that's not the best for you.0

I would suggest whey, as soy is very genetically modified and can wreck havoc on hormones.0

Yikes... well I guess I won't be going back there or trying that, as we're trying to get pregnant and so I don't want to do anything to alter that!!! Thank you all for the info.0

whey.... I'm not a big fan of soy products that aren't fermented.0

Whey protein isolate should be fine for lactose intolerant people, since the lactose is processed out of the powder. I am not intolerant but have sensitivities to dairy in large quantities, but I can still use Syntrax Nectar and Protizyme with no problems at all. Honestly i wouldn't even suggest soy protein to a vegan because of all of the effects it can have on the body hormonally. If you want a vegan protein you could try rice, pea, or hemp proteins, but sometimes these supplements have a bit more carbs than whey isolate.0

I'm soy intolerant and lactose intolerant.
Have you thought of making your own protein shakes? Something with Greek yogurt (that is the only lactose I can tolerate, and only one brand. All other yogurt bothers my tummy), peanut butter, banana, maybe some other hight protein food in it?
People are so right about the soy. It made my hormones go wacky and it made me feel pretty sick. I kept going to the doctor to find out what was wrong with me and testing revealed nothing. I started reading a book on food intolerance and found I had most of the soy intolerance symptoms. Once I cut soy out, within a short period I felt better. My doctor was happy about this.0 -
I have really tried to like the soy protein, as a vegetarian trying to minimize dairy, but for taste and texture, I haven't found anything that is half as good as whey protein. I am lactose intolerant, but as somebody already mentioned, the lactose (milk sugar) is removed from whey protein isolate.
There are other vegan proteins, but let's just say they are "an acquired taste."0 -
NEITHER. Vegan protein powder is my choice. It is called Progressive, Harmonized Vegan Protein
Harmonized Vegan Protein delivers a blend of 5 complimentary plant-based proteins (non-GMO) that include yellow pea protein Isolate, Sprouted brown rice protein concentrated, Hemp seed protein concentrated, cranberry protein and chia seed protein. A multi source protein blend offers greater nutritional diversity than any single source. This 100% vegan formula provides the full spectrum of both essential and non-essential amino acids. Each serving contains 25 grams of complete protein and is ideal for anyone wishing to increase their protein intake while avoiding soy, dairy, or animal source proteins.
I love the Vanilla one. It tastes great. It has Stevia to sweeten. Its really good.0
