daily activities and walking consider as exercise ?

Hi all,

currently I'm using S health app from Samsung to monitor how many calories I burn just by normal activities per day.

if I consider to limit my calories to 1200 per day, does the normal activities consider as exercise or not ?

because if I add it to daily exercise it will add for me extra calories because I did burn it already using that walking activities.

waiting your feedback

regards

If I'm following you correctly: You want to know should you do excercise on top of your daily activities or can you just count your daily activities as exercise? I would say no. Keep in mind, I'm not a health professional so this is strictly my personal opinion.

When you set up your profile you get asked a series of questions (okay, it's two or three). One of these is your daily activity level (ie. your job). MFP then calculates that into the amount of calories you will require to maintain your current weight: ie..power your body on a normal day. It's through excercise that you create the deficit for the weight loss.

I consider walking exercise. If you ask a doctor they will tell you there's no difference between walking and running the same distance. I prefer running, mainly because I'm impatient and would rather run 4 miles than take the time to walk it. However, it's still exercise if you walk that 4 miles.

    What are your goals?

Assuming it is fat loss (I hate weight as a measure), then you should focus on diet first. The amount and types of foods (and macros) you need is driven on your general activity level. There are tons of calculators out there to get a grip on what and how much to eat.

If your goals include some form of fitness (cardiovascular, muscle mass, endurance, speed, agility, balance, flexibility, etc.) then you'll want to do activities that promote that particular form of fitness. Depending on how intense your training is, you'll likely have to adjust your diet (type and quantity) to ensure you properly fuel for it.

Are you trying to do the MFP plan of '1200 plus exercise' using the data from an app that estimates your total daily burn? That's hard to do. I would look at how much the app predicts you burn on a typical day and just subtract 500-1000 calories from that, and forget the MFP 'eating back' thing.
  • hi guys,

thank you for your replies and sorry for late reply due to work load.

what I was trying to say. as scottyg70 said, I did answer MFP question as I do not do exercises.

and using my nike+ FuelBand or Samsung S health. I get total steps per day togather with total calories I did burn during my normal work day ( no dedicated time for workout).

my MFP grant me 1200 Calories to eat as max per day.
and I link MFP to other apps like 6 ABS. which everytime I do workout on 6 ABS I get calories I burn directly on MFP.

so 1200 normal eating + (example 40 Calories from work out) = total (net) 1240.

due to that I thought the amount of calories I burn just during the normal date should also be added as I think to total number.

so if S heatlh app or fuelband said I did burn 500 Calories, then I should add it to 1200 = 1700.

that is what I did understand, and now I'm trying to link endomondo to fuelband and MFP so I get sync between Fuelband to MFP since there is no direct link between MFP and Fuelband.

that what I was asking. hope it's clear

let me know if what I'm doing is correct :)

I just wanna to see all what I do on 1 place and do not wanna to effect body BMI. so I keep lose weight as I do now.

As long as you're not adding in your TOTAL calories from Fuelband or another app, just your calories from your workout alone, you should be ok. I'm not familiar with the Fuelband or your apps, though. Usually the activity trackers are counting in your BMR and your non-exercise activity, and you won't want to eat that back, generally.

1200 is pretty low for a young guy. I think you could eat up to and maybe over 2000 and still lose, so maybe just remember that as you add back. If you're getting totals up in the 2500+ range, that might be too much for weight loss. Hard to say for sure but in general, it's not like you need to always be under 1500 or something to lose. Though of course lower is faster.

1200 calories is as low as MFP will go. 1200 calories came from your goal...."I want to lose XX pounds per week" .....it is not a statement of how many calories your body needs .....active or inactive.

If you increase your activity level to accomodate your steps MFP will give you more calories. HOWEVER if your weekly weight loss goal is high enough, MFP may still give calculate 1200 calories.....does that make sense?

To get a better idea of how many calories your body needs......

    http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

BMR would be your calories with zero activity .....and TDEE should include all your steps. To lose weight you take a % off of TDEE .....and then don't log exercise because it's already in the equation.

<5000 steps/day may be used as a sedentary lifestyle
5000-7499 steps/day is typical of daily activity might be considered low active
7500-9999 likely includes some volitional activities considered somewhat active
10,000 steps/day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as active
    >12500 steps/day are likely to be classified as highly active
  • thank you guys very helpful information.

thanks to you guys and to MFP I manage to lose weight easy.

I did not know about TDEE so thanks for new information TeaBea (bow)

what I do or used to do seem to be good.

I will change my gear from (fuelband) to (fitbit one) which it's already integrated with MFP. and my Calories target per day is 1200 and I used to it since I been eating less than 1200 for more than 3 months. rarely I pass it. adding extra little lifestyle steps using (fitbit one) and some exercises I will manage to lose weight little faster.
