What to eat when getting a cold?

My throat is sore. It's usually the beginning of the end. I've been eating some of those 'take at the first sign of a cold' lozenges (18 calories each, grrr), I typically drink hot tea and honey (double grrr. I like it, but not my favorite thing to spend the calories on, so I've been holding off)... Any advice on what else to do? I know I'm going to be over my goal today so maybe a smaller deficit will help fight it off?

Vitamin C (oranges, kiwi's), Echinecea (shot glass careful, it's got alcohol in it and tastes aweful).0

Lots of Vitamin C
I drink lots of tea when I am sick as well, and I normally hate the stuff.0 -
Eat raw garlic and get more vitamin C.0

Never mind calories when you are sick or fighting something. A few days over calorie goal isn't going to ruin you.0

I always eat oranges or drink orange juice - Vitamin C plus I like the scratchy feeling on my throat while I eat/drink then afterwards the sore throat isn't as bad as it was to swallow the orange (I'm just strange about that).0

chicken soup with lots of carrots, onions and celery.....followed by a shot of whiskey0

^This exactly! Rest up for a day or two and don't obsess about a few extra calories!0 -

Exactly what I was going to say, with the caveat to listen to your body if something sounds or tastes unusually unappetizing to you. Eating food you can't keep down won't speed up your recovery from an illness.Never mind calories when you are sick or fighting something. A few days over calorie goal isn't going to ruin you.

I usually make a vegetable soup with whatever I have in the fridge/freezer. I don't think it prevents anything since the germs are already brewing but it does make me feel a little better.

Whatever makes you feel better. For me that's toast w/ butter and scrambled eggs, chicken broth with rice or fine pasta and Vernors Ginger ale... which is very high calorie but if I have to drink 800+ calories a day to feel better I do.0
