if you eat after midnight, which day to add the cals to?

im sure 50% of you will be like OH MY GOSH I NEVER EAT AFTER MIDNIGHT ITS SO BADDDDD but, if you eat at 12:05, right when the day has changed thru the MFP diary, dyou go back and add to the day that you're still finishing since you haven't slept yet, or the next day, when your calorie count has reset? does your body treat it a certain way?

i add mine to the day that has just passed when it hit midnight, because i haven't slept and didnt consider it the next day yet, but if you can add it to the next day... it'd sure help alleviate some guilt.

just a poll of sorts =]

I just track midnight to midnight, no matter when I sleep.
  • If the previous day has room I cheat and put it there otherwise it's logged with tomorrow's breakfast.

If it's after midnight I log it on the next day's calories.

I eat my dinner after midnight all the time which is a few hours before I go to bed, just because I'm on a different schedule then most people.

I consider anything before I go to sleep one day, even if its after midnight. I just don't go above my net calories.

I wouldn't eat a ton before you go to bed or anything, because the digestion of food can negatively impact sleep, that is something to keep in mind.

    ---

On a side note, whether or not your body treats it differently I do not know, I hear so many people say to eat 60% of your food before 3pm or something (assuming you have normal hours), but to me that sounds silly. I'm a big believer in calories in vs. calories out (but giving your body the nutrition it needs obviously).

My "calorie day boundary" isn't a specific time. Rather, it's whenever I get the most sleep (not alway at night).

I only have one rule for my logging: keep it in the proper week. I weigh in on Monday so anything between Monday A and Sunday Acan go wherever the hell I want to put it. After Monday B we're on a new weigh in cycle and anything between Monday B and Sunday B can go wherever, as long as it falls in that week.

    That's just me though.
  • Like someone else said. Pick the day that works best for you.

My rule is the same day, because I haven't gone to bed yet, I log from the time I wake up , until I go to bed. But with that said, I also, work straight nights. All my eating is done from 9pm until 2pm the next day, sleep from 3pm-9pm daily. All the things you hear about don't eat past this time or that time, is BS!

Your body doesn't understand time, but it understands your circadian rhythm. If you haven't slept, add it to today. Basically, log between your waking hours rather than according to a clock face.

If it makes you go over, no big deal... as long as you keep your weekly deficit in check you'll still lose weight.

I'm so now considering sneaking off to the fridge for a strawberry Greek yogurt. 11:59pm!

I always measure my days by when I sleep. So I would add it to the "current" day every time. It might be easier to put it on the next day so you don't go over, but then you have that much less food available to you the next day which will just cause the cycle to get worse.

I add it to the next day and then work into the calories that day or exercise more for it.

I work night shift, so i always do midnight to midnight. It helps me to track that way, so every 24 hrs I'm consuming the correct amount of calories. If i tried to do it based on when I sleep, I'd eat 2500 cals one day and like 400 the next lol Damn night shift! :)

I add it to the current day even if it makes me over. There's something very depressing about going to sleep and waking up to stolen calories. IT's like anti xmas morning where people come and take gifts from you.

It doesn't make a difference in terms of losing weight, so put it wherever you want...although you're kind of cheating yourself by putting it on the next day just to "feel better" about not going over the day before. I like to think of my logging as total calories over a week, not over a day. That way it doesn't matter when I log.

My significant other works midnights often so when I have a stretch of time off I flip onto that schedule so we see each other. I count one day as when I wake up to when I go to sleep.
