am I doing this right ?

Hi Guys ,

I have decided this is going to be the year i loose the weight i have been carrying now for a few years , i am 47 years old , about 5 ft 8 inches tall , male , and i currently weigh 16 stone 7 lbs . I have been struggling to eat my allowance of 1920 calories per day and have been exercising 5 days a week on an exercise bike burning off 1000 calories a day , I read somewhere that this is not healthy and not the way to loose weight , I really enjoy the exercise ....so should i eat more ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks ,

V.

You can eat back the calories you burn if you like.
So, if you are burning 1000, eat 2920 and you'll be fine. Just eat good, whole foods that keep you full. :)

I'm sure other people will give you advice that know more as well.

One thing you can try to do is use the Search function of these message boards. If you Search and read through previous questions similar to your own, there are many people who have discussed calories, eating them back, and lots of tips.

The message boards are broken down into sections as well. This is the section where people post their Success Stories to help motivate others. It's unlikely that you will get the same response here as you might in the appropriate section. :)

    All the best!

Your NET calories should be about equal to your target. If you're eating 1900 and burning back off 1000, you aren't eating enough.

Slightly off topic- 1000 calories a day on an exercise bike seems excessive, you don't need to do that much. When you do that much cardo, you get to a point where the scales tip in favor of breaking down muscle tissue for fuel, so what you're doing is accelerating muscle wastage. Why not cut back to ~45 minutes on the bike and add a strength routine? Your program will be much more efficient and you'll end up much happier with your end-result body.

Well you're not doing the posting bit right. This is the branch for success stories. You'll probably have more luck getting feedback if you post in one of the other branches.
