Really don't like this..I feel more hungry then I did over the past few months. Lots of coffee & food in general. I'm trying my best to control it. I remember last winter, I did very little exercise..all I did was walk 4 miles to my GED classes 3 times a week, but that wasn't enough..still ate horrible then and gained more weight that led me to deciding..I need a change! I don't want to make the same mistake this year. I fear it, and I keep telling myself I can do it. I'm working out now even to help make up the difference. My calorie intake for MFP is 1450 I believe which to me is reasonable.

I think a lot of us are experiencing this. It's our inner caveman trying to get out & fatten up for the oncoming months of unbearable cold & darkness0

Lots and lots of hot tea! Caffeinated or not, just remember to drink a cup of water for every cup of caffeine.0

I have a months worth of herbal tea here though I never drink it. I should start!0

print some of the worst photos you have of yourself and put one on the fridge, one on your favorite snack cupboard and one beside the couch...hopefully that will help you divert your appetite. Also DO put a good picture of you on your front door, exercise bike or whatever you associate with exercise.
I havent personally tried this, but im sure it might work. Its definitely worth a try.0 -
I agree cold weather makes us want to eat, But soup is always good in cold weather and most of it is very low in calories, also try to make your comfort foods low cal and low fat. Like making spinach lasagna and making marinara sauce over whole wheat pasta instead of spaghetti , I also make a ground turkey loaf instead of meatloaf , I put in cranberry sauce , and bread crumbs in it, YUMMY0

 aaww really? water and hot tea? but i do that anyways and i can still pound back the salsa and tostitos...i always want to curl up on the couch with a warm blanket and food...i drink 10 glasses of water a day, i really don't think i can squeeze any more in without wetting myself...i know that stews and chili's are bad but they're so good! maybe we can just work out more and that way we can eat more0

I am going through the same thing. I haven't worked out much I am paying more attention to what goes in my mouth! This is going to be OUR true test! Did our lifestyle change or did we just do what was necessary to lose weight!!!0

I rarely ever buy food thats unhealthy..at least for me. What worries me is my fiancees unemployment runs out in a couple of months..(if that) and we have only my income and its so hard to find work here in michigan. I don't want to settle for a box of food that isn't good for my body through food pantries. All it mostly is..juice, pasta, canned veggies, cake mixes..etc and no fresh food! Thank god for fresh water! lol0

Make a nice hearty soup not the canned kind (too much sodium). Great for cold weather and provides the comfort we need during the brrrrrr time of year.0

Few reason why your appetite is increasing. One the colder weather makes it so your body has to burn more calories so your body can keep its regular body temp up. Think of your body like a furnace, calories are fuel to keep the fire going. When it gets cold out your body works a little harder at trying to keep the body temp within a normal range. Another reason it could be is it is colder, we as human beings aren't as active when it gets colder and darker sooner rather than when it is warmer and more light out. Also, with the boredom comes snacking which is easier for us to do. Plus, around the holidays there is a lot more higher calorie foods around and easier for us to obtain.
Keep after your recommended calorie intake and try and exercise as you are able to. Just remember some days you will have to push yourself to workout or stick with your calorie intake. Each day isn't going to be easy, somedays you have to push through, but it is the hard that makes the reward so great. keep after it.0 -

Can I ask why you think stews and chilis are so bad?? Don't see why you can't have these things as long as you limit yourself to a portion and not over eat it. Then again I feel that way with all things. Don't see why you can't have what you want as long as you mind that portion. My opinon though.0 -

I completely agree, i was actually going to say the exact same thing0 -
I was going to suggest you try reaching for a bowl of low-cal soup or decaf tea when you ar ehaving cravinga. Vegetable soup and minestrone both are low in calories and can be low in soduim if you make it yourself.. if you don't have the time to make homemade healthy choice soups and those like it are a good choice. Hot tea really can be a rich creamy cup of soothing comfort that warms you all over and refreshes your spirit. Herb tea comes in a huge variety of flavors, some that taste like a dessert. My favorites are Candy Cane Lane and Sugar Cookie Dough Holiday teas by Celestial Seasonings, or Vanilla Chia, English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast all decaf made by Bigalow and Twinnings. One cup with 2 tsp of sugar and half and half you are still looking at only 50 calores, less if you use stevia or splenda. I hear there is a wonderful diet hot cocoa on the market now made by Swiss Miss wth only 25 calories.. I fully intend to check this one out myself the next time I go to the store.0

because they're so high in sodium, and how do you know how many calories your home made chili is? i agree with the portions, but i really watch my salt intake (family has a history of heart disease).0

I use the recipe creator here on MFP for my homemade soup and chilis. I do not like canned soups etc. Disgusting!! so make my own.0
