TOO much sugar

I can't seem to get my sugar under control. My daily calorie allowance is pretty low (1200) since I'm a pretty short woman who doesn't have a lot of weight to lose. I 'm over on my sugar each day. Any tips on how to reduce the sugar intake?

I am always over on sugar too. i can barely wat like any fruit because of it! I stopp[ed paying attention to it because I switched to only eating natural sugars
  • I don't know what to tell you since I'm in a similar situation... 1200 calories to begin with daily. I have noticed that as I add my exercise for the day, it not only increases the calories I can consume, but sugar level too. I think it's more important to concentrate on what types of sugars we're consuming. Most of mine is coming from things like carrots and tomatoes (usually). So, it's not processed sugars. My downfall is yogurt and milk. Both are high in sugar content. So, I try to only have them on days I'm working out or getting some kind of exercise.

    Good luck!
  • I do not eat processed sugar, and the only "sweet" things I eat are fruit and things like that. I am addicted to processed sugar, and once I start with that, and lots of bad type carbs, I can't stop. But if you can get through a few days, you won't even miss it. I am trying to eat most of my foods that have less processing and less ingredients. I am not great at it, but I am trying.
  • eat whole-unprocessed grains, and less simple carbs with sugar. Pretty simple answer.

Reducing the amount of packaged food you eat can help. A lot of them have lots of added sugar. If my sugar is over but its mostly all fruit I dont worry about it.

watch the amount of fruit and milk / yogurt you are eating. also, limit anything with processed sugar. a lot of people don't realize that there are so many grams of sugar in things like milk.

take a look at your food diary, and see what you are spending a lot of your sugar calories on, and see which of those you can reduce or cut out.

Looks like you're right. I've been pretty clean when it comes to packaged foods, but upon closer inspection, I see that the sugar is coming from the milk I drink (which is essentially the only non-water drink I consume lately)!

    Thanks for the input everyone!

The sugar limit is ridiculously low. Two pieces of fruit and I'm over. One bowl of cereal and I'm over. It's just not realistic. So I don't worry about my sugar as long as it's not coming from refined sugar. If it's fructose and lactose it's not a big deal to be over a little.
