What are your plans to deal with Thanksgiving overindulgence

Options
Just curious as to how others are planning to deal with the holiday meals coming up! This year, my hubby and I are going out of town for Thanksgiving and the day after...just the two of us..for a much needed getaway...Going to our favorite casino and will be eating Tgiving dinner at one of the restaurants there...So, I know I will proably go over with the meal, but I will be eating only that one meal for the day, and will not have any leftovers to temp me! Plus, I will be doing alot of walking throughout the day..so I hope it doesn't hurt me too bad..And for Christmas, we are hosting at my house, so I will have total control over the food, and I have been doing alot of research on lower fat/calorie treats and sides...so that's my plan :)

I usually work out after work. On off days during the holidays I'm going to work out first thing before I do anything in the morning. I find when I do this I eat less all day.

I am going to make sure I get to the gym 3-4 times a week as usual, even if I need to switch days/times. Also, to stop and make sure I really really want something before I put it in my mouth. If I do, I will have a small amount. If not, I will skip it.

I plan to walk early that morning and have talked some family members into going for another walk with me later that afternoon. I plan to only eat one plate of food (no cranberry sauce or dressing....not a fan of dressing anyway). I am cooking my own baked sweet potato so that I'm not tempted to eat the sweet potato pie with sugar and marshmallows that I know will be there. My biggest splurge is that I want a piece of pecan pie. That will be it on the sweets for me. I'll probably be over in cals for that day but this is life.....and I'm going to relax and enjoy Thanksgiving Day. Also, I find I can't eat as much as I used to. I get full faster. So I don't expect to get TOO crazy with it. :)

My family is scattered so we are all meeting at my mothers home. This will be a challenge because my mother makes the best dressing and pumpkin pie!! I will be tempted every step of the way too. But I think that cutting portions will be my key to this family celebration. As for Christmas I am hosting the meal so I will be able to control what is going into the food and what is going to be on the table. As for the new year I am working that night so it will be another challenge since our unit in the hospital is known to have the "best" food for the holidays! What is a girl to do? =) I hope you enjoy the time with your family and don't worry about what hyou eat, the walking will burn it off for sure!!

I tend to not eat as much or snack when I stay busy, especially when I am doing something with my hands. So honestly, I am taking my crocheting projects when I go to my parents' for T-giving... I am going to exercise in the morning, eat my normal portions, have a piece of pie, and exercise again that night. And when I have some free time, I am going to crochet. Yep, that's my plan!

I am gonna use a smaller plate, like a child plate to control my portions and eat half of the piece of pumpkin pie I usually eat. I figured if I can do that for my birthday dinner last week I can do it on the biggest stuff you day face ever :)

    Good luck

LOL oh and work out the morning of!!

I'm doing a 5K Drumstick Dash that morning, so that should burn some of the calories! Then, I'm focusing on the protein-filled options to fill me up: turkey especially. Mmmmmm. I love it. And, I'm going to drink a lot and have coffee when I'm done eating so I won't be tempted to go back for more.

My plan is to eat my favorite foods and to do so s-l-o-w-l-y. I also plan on taking it easy on my portions and not heaping my plate like I know I will want to. I will stick to my exercise regiment and perhaps take it easy on any other meals to leave room for some extra turkey and pie. That's really about it.

I will start out my Thanksgiving Day with a 75 minute yoga practice in the morning, then will work for a while. Usually I go to my family's house for dinner, and I bring my own food. I don't do hard carbs (potatoes, stuffing, bread, pasta) and I don't eat meat, so it doesn't leave much. I will eat the veggies as long as they are cooked the right way (no oils, butter) and salad. So basically, my eating does not change much just because it is Thanksgiving, I look at the holiday as a reason to be with family and friends and to count my blessings, be thankful for them, good health and all I have and not a reason to eat. I am not saying that the wonderful foods served shouldn't be enjoyed by others, in moderation, it's just not my thing :)

p.s. my family does think I am odd at the holidays, but they are used to me ... lol

To support portion control (the real issue) try using a bread plate instead of a dinner plate...try everything you like but if it doesn't fit on the plate...leave it for leftovers...you can add a bowl if it is filled with salad or veggies.

    Good luck

My fiance and I will be eating at my parent's house this year. I'm going to have everything that I really want, but if I'm not excited about something, then I'm not going to eat it. Why eat those extra calories if you don't really want/need it, right? I'll have dessert too, but I'm not taking home leftovers.

I'm hoping my fiance and I can do some Wii fit when we get home or maybe go for a walk at the lake near my parent's house.

You guys are all so good and well behaved!! As for me, I'm eating anything and everything! And I plan on working out everyday up to Turkey day and everyday after!! I'm allowing Thanksgiving to be my so called "cheat day" and really since I've been waching my portions and calories my tummy's not nearly as big as it use to be so I hope I don't gain too much! But a little can still be worked off! I'm looking forward to it! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!

I'm not as worried about Thanksgiving as I am Christmas...only because of how often I have to eat!

I plan on being extra good all week and getting a little extra excercise as well..starting with cleaning my house from top to bottom this week..

On Thanksgiving I have 2 dinners one at the nusing home with my mom so it won't be bad..then the big one at my cousins...I plan on eating enough to enjoy myself but not overstuffing myself and feeling miserable...Only allowing myself 1 dessert and hoping my cousin doesn't try to pawn off the extra desserts on me to bring home..

Then I plan on being extra good leading up to Christmas.the feasting starts on Christmas Eve at my husbands Aunts house.. After years of having to spend the day going from family to family we made Christmas breakfast our at home tradition...Its my favorite holiday meal! Then no sooner am I done with breakfast its away to the nursing home for lunch with mom...2 hour break if I'm lucky then the big dinner at my cousins...

I am just taking the day off. Every now and then I think we all deserve a free day and what better day to let yourself be free than Thanksgiving.

I'm also in WW, so, I'll have my extra weekly points + my weekly activity points. I plan on enjoying myself, without overindulging of course.
