Can anyone direct me to some websites or give me advice about weight lifting for weight loss. I'm not really looking to bulk up. I just want to lose weight and firm up my arms and abs. Thanks.

As a woman you will not bulk up. I will not be last to tell you this.
People have had a lot of success with bodyweight exercises, New rules of lifting for women, nerd fitness, a variety of fitness dvds, starting strength, strong lifts 5x5, convict conditioning, etc.
I use bodybuilding.com as my main resource.
When strength training its important to not look at the scale, you will want to track measurements and body composition. You weight will fluctuate or not change but you may lose inches. It will take patience and time and will not happen quickly.
Abs are made in the kitchen, you can work your core as much as you can, but with a layer of fat they will not be seen.
The following is the only link I have, but I am sure someone should post the sexy pants thread.

And I want those abs showing.
It will take time, effort and self discipline.0 -
Thanks for the info. I was also wondering about actual form. I have never lifted weights. I was wondering about different types of weight lifting exercises I could do to improve my abs and encourage weight loss. I do go to a gym where weights are available, but the staff there doesnt really seem that educated.0

Start with New Rules of Lifting for Women! It's an awesome book for women who are looking to gain strength (and look and feel gorgeous in their bodies, quite the added benefit). I started the program a few weeks ago and am loving it - the MFP community will back me up on this one.
To strength! :drinker:0 -

The best for burning fat are going to be your compound lifts, squats, deadlifts and bench press. These target multiple muscle groups and are more efficient. The New Rules of Lifting for Women is a great resource as well as Starting Strength.
If you are having trouble finding someone in your gym to help with form, you can always youtube the movements. There are a variety of instructional videos on these exercises. Mark Rippetoe is a great source for teaching the major compound lifts. You can search for him.0 -

For form
Youtube videos, as well as most sites have videos that were previously mentioned.
with bodybuilding.com has some really good resources and articles. You can search by body part and filter by what equipment is available to you. I searched for abdominal exercises with body weight and came up with a list for myself.0 -
I like this directory for different exercises. Click into one and you'll see a video showing correct form.

For help with form, your best bet is going to be to hire a trainer. None of the you tube videos and website articles in the world can give you feedback on how YOU perform a movement like a trainer can. One meeting every week or two should be enough for them to give you corrective feedback and progress your program for the first couple months. Weight training can be dangerous if you don't pay attention to form so it's worth shelling out a little cash for. Plus, you'll be developing a new skill that you will have for the rest of your life!0
