Now I want off the insulin. Would like to speak to anyone else having weight-loss issues exacerbated by diabetes. I'm type 2 but also Insulin dependant, so happy to talk to anyone :)

Yeess.... I too was diagnosed with diabeties, type 2, back in April. I immediately changed my diet and started exercising (walking). I loss about 2 kilo's and that was it. I felt that I should have been losing more with the changes I had made. So I was then put on tablets for the diabeties and was told it would also help with the weight loss. But no real difference and was still having trouble getting my fasting sugar level down. Then I gave myself a good talking too and started to really look at what I was doing. I was managing my carbs intake well and my after meals sugar levels was fine but then I realised that really my calories intake was high. I also took my exercise up a level instead of the gentle 30min walk I was doing and thinking well thats 30mins more than I ever did and should really make a difference. I push it harder, I try to run (I am large,ok, obese and this isnt easy) I know I look funny doing it but I dont care, I started only doing about 6 running steps. I have recently done a 25km fun walk. Well I only did 14km and cried for the last 7km. it was hard and at the end of the day I was sore, tired and fed up, thought what a stupid thing to do. Should have stayed home and done some gardening or craft. But the next morning I woke up and thought , wow, I wouldn't have even thought to do that 6months ago. I am now looking for another walk to do. I also got brave and gave a Zumba class ago, that's not for me. Have also tried jazz ballet, I liked that and will go again. Yes I am the biggest in the class but again I don't care, it will help me to lose weight and manage my diabeties. I have had most success since being put on to this site as it helps keep me on track and honest to myself. I like that it records our carbs and calories. I would be happy to chat with you and share and encourage each other. WE CAN DO THIS.
  • Thanks for that. It's difficult to find people having issues with weight loss and diabetes. I just got your friend request and will accept it in a tick :) I'd love a sounding board in this :)

My own story is a little different - I was diagnosed because I ended up in hospital with my BGLs at 45 (I believe in America you multiply BGLs by 18? If so that makes then 810. Or maybe it's 13 lol... I don't know to be honest!) I was put on insulin straight off the bat and lost a lot of weight in hospital. Because they were still trying to get my BGLs sorted, my weight fluctuated each time my insulin dose was adjusted. I'm going through some pretty crappy times right now and am just about at the end of my tether. Hopefully if I lose enough weight I can be happier and therefore more able to deal with difficult situations.

    Take care, talk soon :)
