Low Sodium option suggestions

Options
Hello MFP pals! I was wondering if any of you could suggest your favorite low sodium foods that you include in your diet. I know there are some obvious ones out there but I am looking for those ones that don't make you go UGH! Any ideas?

There is sodium in just about everything it seems...even the cantaloupe I ate last night

But a lot of pre made sauces and dressing have lots of sodium so use in moderation

Eating out seems to add up the sodium count a lot

Not what you were looking for but ....

i have high blood pressure so i also try to keep my sodium low.

my diary is open so you're welcome to have a look if you want although the past 2 days have been fairly bad

my suggestion is to try to avoid pre-packaged foods as much as possible, especially meats. so basically any fresh foods should OK sodium wise.

I have just gone low sodium so I know what you mean. Recipes that I used to cook...that I loved...I now have a hard time eating.

Here is a product that I bought yesterday...so far I have liked it...

    Here is the nutrition label...

I got mine at Whole Foods...I haven't checked the other stores yet.

I used mine for a tuna salad wrap and it was the best thing that I have eaten since cutting sodium.

Eat whole foods, avoid pre-packaged stuff. This includes canned soups and such. Shop the outside of the grocery store and do very little in the aisles. When I buy canned tomatoes, beans, etc, I buy the low sodium if at all possible, and then rinse them like crazy to get even more of the sodium out of there. Obviously, don't add salt to your food. Eating out will be very difficult. Pretty much plan on 1000-1500 mg of sodium for any meal at a restaurant, minimum. It's challenging, but not impossible.

Avoiding asian sauces I find is key. If you are trying to watch your sodium going for less processed foods will help. :)

I am a big fan of soup. Like I could happily live on it. So I make my own, though I haven't ventured outside of six or so recipes. I use low sodium vegetable stock and unsalted beef and chicken stocks.

One thing that really shocked me sodium wise was the store bought Italian bread I was to, 480mg in two pieces. Now I eat whole grain pita bread and am eating 180mg for the same amount of calories (well, 10 less).

I also check my cheeses for sodium content and I use the brand or type of cheese with the least sodium and get the same results I'm looking for.

I rarely eat things out of boxes, and I make sure my canned goods are "no salt" or at the very least "low sodium".

Also, low fat, fat free and light often mean loads of salt. The other night I was at Subway (not a good choice for low sodium to begin with, I know!) and I really wanted some Italian dressing for my sub, well I got it I didn't even look at it before I dumped it on little did I know it was fat free and had some 700mg of sodium in one packet. Thankfully, I only used half... but gee-whiz!

I'm a bad person to ask about low sodium options taste wise for certain products like potato or tortilla chips for example because I prefer low or no salt varieties over the originals.

Thanks for the info. I have been going low sodium since January when my blood pressure came in at the Holy Cow zone. I have a few good meals mapped out, but I'm always looking for something new. I just ordered several of these sauces to try.
