Dreading my Kryptonite

So... This will probably sound so trivial, but my son is having a "pizza bingo" night at school tonite. I'm at a loss for how to handle it Should I challenge myself for the first time EVER of just having one piece? Should I bring my own food, such as a salad. It's such a big deal to me because this has ALWAYS been the turning point of my binging, giving up and "I'll start back on Monday" hence the constant cycle of quitting and starting over. I'd love to hear from those of you who have succeeded in your weight loss journey and how you handle these situation. Pizza, Pasta and Bread are a horrible trigger for me. Thx in advance!

    Go for it.

It's not about TRYING to have one piece. Just make the decision. Just have one piece.

You're not allowed to have anymore. PERIOD.

Prove to yourself that you're a sentient human being in control of your actions. Or hell, if it fits into your calories have 2 slices. Figure out your day, figure out what you can afford and just stick to your guns.

I am the last one to give advice on this...

I have a binge eating problem myself. Sometimes if I allow myself a reasonable portion I am ok, and sometimes it is like breaking the seal on a can of Pringles ("once you pop you can't stop") Do what feels right. I think taking food with you is a good idea.

Can his Dad take him? Some times avoidance is strength and not weakness.

This is why addicts avoid bars after all ;-) You don't hear the host of an AA meeting suggesting that they go to the bar and just drink water.....

Thank you for your input. Funny, I struggled with "not going" but I realized my son would be the one to suffer for it if we dont go as a family. It's a great analogy (the Pringles can). I can put down such LARGE amounts of my trigger foods, most people wouldn't believe it!!! I want to get to the point where I'm fine with these situations. Tiny steps, I guess...

When I know I'm going to have bad food, (like today!,) I plan for it. I enter it first thing in the morning and plan my other meals accordingly. If I know I'm going to eat two slices, I work out BEFORE I eat them, if at all possible. That way I'm guilt-free and can enjoy my lovely junk food. ;) But the big thing is sticking to your plan, even if you question that maybe the slices are a little smaller than the ones you input. *ahem* (That's my personal biggest excuse that I'm working to stop making, lol.)

Definitely agree that you should enjoy a slice tonight. Plan a great workout today - or even get in a little secondary workout afterwards! If it helps, eat a good salad/veggies, and drink some water before you go, so you don't go in super hungry! Enjoy the evening with your family!

Figure out in advance the calories. Pre-log it. Eat however many you can fit into your caloric limit for the day. If it's one, eat one, and if it's two, eat two. Binge foods and kryptonite foods all come down to our own ability to self-regulate and control our bad habits. You CAN do this. It is hard, but it's also a simple concept (which is why it's so damn frustrating, I know!).

I prelog in general, mostly because I eat the same thing every day. But If I know something is coming (like the 7 course meal I had last weekend) I exercise like a freak the day before, the day of and the day after, with the before and after days staying around 1300 calories for food intake. It basically allows me to enjoy my 2000 calorie splurge and stay on it. And I like to Zumba anyway

Whenever this happens, and this happened the other day at a work catered lunch, I just go the whole day (every day) convincing myself that I have celiac disease. For me it works because I'm good at pretending and I'm pretty gullible.

This helps me because I just look at it for one second and say nope! I don't look at it and think "omg that looks divine" (even if it does). I easily turned my back to an entire cake table!

Wow! never thought of logging the "bad" food before I even eat it. That is a great idea to do and work around it for the other part of the day! Thanks for the tip!!
