Jogging tips

Hi id love to start jogging but I have tried many times and given up as I get out of breath so quickly. Any tips from you joggers would be great, thanks.

  • Try a couch to 5k program. It gradually gets u into running

    Couch to 5k is a good program to help build you up.
    Also, slow down. Run as slowly as you can until you can do 30 mins without having to walk, then start thinking about trying to go fast. No point running too fast if you end up having to stop because of it.

    Im currently in week 2 of the couch to 5k Program, its great and it getsu running!

    This may sound like I'm kidding, but I'm not: SLOW DOWN. If you're quickly getting out of breath, you're running too quickly; even if you think it feels really slow, just run at a pace that allows you to sustain a conversation. Though I've never done the program, many here swear by the Couch to 5K program; as @shoelover78 said, it gradually builds up your endurance with set run/walk intervals.

    When I first started jogging, I began with just 1 mile. I would jog then walk then jog, ect. Well, I came to find out there is an app called couch to 5k, which is basically the same. It builds you up to a 5k run. I wasn't able to use it coz I have no cell phone but it sounded helpful. I have no need for it now, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Best of luck :)

    I successfully did C25K last year. The key for me was to focus on being able to keep breathing. It took me 3 weeks in until I could have enough self control over speed to slow down enough to be able to keep going for the time or distance at that stage. I believe week 5 was a toughy, but once you get through that, and regulate your oxygen intake, it gets much much easier from there. By the time I finished C25K I hadn't yet run a 5K distance, but signed up for a race anyways. The gap for me was about half a mile I think. Don't feel bad if you find yourself wanting to repeat a week, or walk a bit more. The key is to keep with it, and regulate your speed, oxygen, and make sure you're properly hydrated. Eat well and you'll do fine.

    Go slow and enjoy it. When I started running almost 2 yrs ago I couldn't go far. I would run for as long as I could (at a slow pace) and then walk until I could run a little more. As time went on I was doing more running than walking and now I run 3-4 days a week and I love it. Just remember that you aren't in a race, it doesn't matter how fast/slow you go it just matters that your out there doing it. Good luck. :)

    c25k made a runner out of me two years ago at the age of 43. I used the c25kFREE app by Zen Labs - worked great.
