The first thing I do is ask my family what they would like to have; I like to do themes. This year will be mexican. So I will make nachos. My nachos are blue chips. I will use fat free sour cream, 2% cheese, green onions, salsa, and a variety of vegetables. Afterwards, I bake it and top it with chives. The best thing I can suggest is decide what you want, look at the ingredients, and determine which ones can be changed to reduced or lower fat and calories, that is what I do. Plain greek yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream!

Guacamole and salsa with veggies for the "chips" - regular chips also for the "other" people :-P
We are buying chicken tenders and wings to grill without sauce, then making serveral different dipping options - some healthy (hot sauce) and some not (sweet bbq).
Popcorn for that salty, crunchy treat.:drinker:

I'm with VFBloch. I wouldn't suggest serving anything "weird" to be healthy...this is not the day to break out the kale chips.

But I would think in terms of replacing an ingredient here, an ingredient there with lower-sugar, lower-fat alternative. Plain greek yogurt over sour cream...turkey sausage over pork...reduced-fat cheese...veggie tray over big bags of potato chips..fat-free refried beans for the nachos...

EDIT: I've also found salsa to be a great, if non-traditional, dip for veggies..

    Jalapeno Poppers

10-20 jalapenos depends how many you want to make
1-2 pkgs cream cheese ( use light and nobody will know )
1-2 pkgs bacon cut in half

Cut jalapenos lengthwise and take out all the seeds or leave a couple
    Scoop cream cheese in.
Wrap with half a piece of bacon.
    Insert toothpick to secure bacon.
Cover cookie sheet with tin foil for easy clean up.
Bake at 400º until bacon is crispy. Around 20 mins

I make a full meal for Superbowl party: ziti, pulled pork, meatball sandwiches, mac & cheese, hot roast beef sandwiches. So my appetizers are the fruit salsa, homemade salsa, veggie tray, fruit tray, cheese tray, and little sausages wrapped in crossiant. You can make whatever you like, just eat in moderation. I still count my calories but don't eat too much of the "bad" stuff like desserts. Can't wait for the SUPERBOWL : )
