Heart Rate Help....

Hi! I'm stuck! I am in month 2 of my first round of Insanity. I bought myself a HRM as a reward for completing month 1. But I'm finding I am struggling to get my heart rate near 80% etc? At most in get it to 150 on any of the workouts. So my calorie burn is only about 400-450. This all seems low.

I was fairly fit before I started as I have been working out with a PT for a while and he has taught me how to work hard!

I'm not holding back in my workouts, man I sweat! My body can't move any faster. Some exercises I still struggle with and can't do completely but I'm in it. I have about 20lbs to loose to my goal (although haven't lost anything so far doing Insanity, well 2lb).

I've tried seeing if there is a difference between workouts first thing and evening, but no difference.

Am I missing something???

I'm 5'9
174 llb

Thanks

Do you mean 80% of your estimated max heartrate or 80% of your actual (tested) max heartrate?

There is a huge range of what is "normal" for individuals. My actual max happens to be close to the common 220 minus your age formula but my brother's max is 40bpm over what would be considered usual for his age.

You are probably fine with 150; just monitor it, and take the above advice for range. My heart maxs out around 168 under extreme duress. It hasn't changed in 5 years, but what did change is typical range during cardio is lower now by 12-15. As you work longer and harder with cardio your HR will more then likely see a decrease. You may also want to check your resting hear rate.

Thanks... 80% of my estimated max. My resting rate was 56 when checked it the other eve. When I run I can get it higher to about 165... But that's it, all out...

See when I run all out, my hr goes to 185-190. I try to keep at 160 when jogging or working out, which is 80% Everyone is different. You should use your own max instead of the average.
