Some ideas required

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I could do with losing some weight and am currently keeping a food diary of what I've eaten to count calories. I do a little bit of exercise - walking to and from my car into work and using the stairs as I can at work. I work in a 3-storey building but, due to the nature of my work, I'm not always required to use the stairs too much though I am trying to incorporate them as much as I can. I require my car to travel to work, not because of the distance but because I need to fetch my son from the childminder after work and only have a 30 min slot to do so - I finish work at 2 or 3 and have to fetch him by 2.30 or 3.20pm.

My main problem is that when I get home from work and fetching my son I generally tend to want to sit down and either catch up on some tv or continue with my cross stitching. This is partly due to lack of motivation, some lack of interest but also I find I tend to get out of breath very quickly too.

I think I need something small to start with and then maybe build up. I'd like to go swimming a bit more often but money is always a worry, I am very strict with myself on my spending, and, though I would like to teach my son to swim, obviously I couldn't leave him alone and do some lengths myself. I rely on my family already to look after him if I need it when my husband is not available due to his shifts.

Can anyone recommend anything at all please? I have got a dance game and Zumba game for the Xbox but personally hate the Xbox sensor and find it very difficult to use!

I also meant to add that, although I know you can't easily exercise to lose weight off specific parts of the body, I am most frustrated with my tummy, hips, bum and thighs and this is what I feel I need to work on the most.

Why don't you concentrate on your walking for now? Could you go for a walk with your son when you finish work? I don't know how old he is but it sounds like he isn't at school so may be young enough for a pushchair. See how long you can walk the first day then add a minute each day, or time yourself on a route and see if you can beat that time. Or if you can't get out, there is loads of stuff you can do at home, even just going up and down the stairs. Google exercises you can do at home and there will be loads of workouts.
i struggle with motivation too, and one of the things that works for me is thinking of it like an appointment. So, when thinking about my day ahead, i know i have go to this place, then go there, then run, then cook dinner..if i think oh i will do it sometime today, it doesn't get done, i need a plan! Plus I always make sure my stuff is ready before hand, cos if i come home from work expecting to run, and I have to find leggings, then can't find my earphones, then one trainer is in the hall and the other has been kicked under the sofa....it ain't happening, ive lost all motivation. So I do as much as i can to be prepared.
    Hope that helps ????

when you and your son get home, change clothes and go for a walk. not sure how old your son is but if if he is young you can make it fun like looking for certain colored cars on monday different on tuesday and so forth. Pick up (with gloves of course) trash along your route.starting out is about getting into a routine. Once routine is established then move on to bigger things. How about YOU teach your son to swim? At least you are aware that you have the time just not the motivation yet.

My son will be 3 in a few weeks time.

Making a plan does sound like a good idea as that is something I tend to do already anyway. I'm usually trying to plan days if I've got things to do. I will try to start incorporating that, although at the moment my back is incredibly painful and is not great at all at the moment (currently sat with a very hot water bottle behind my back!)

I would like to teach my son to swim so that is something I plan to do at some point - I would say when I can afford it but to be honest, particularly with my husband's spending, it's highly unlikely I'll ever afford it unless I pay myself... When I win the lottery lol!
