i've looked on some people's food diaries and they are drinking from between 12-and 20 glasses of water a day meanwhile i'm struggling around 6 or 7. My question is do those of you drinking so much find yourselves constantly having to go to the bathroom? i find myself at work going every few mins so i end up slowing down. Also how big of an impact would you say drinking so much water has had

I drink 3-4 L of water every day and I am known as the girl with the microscopic bladder... Its a small price to pay for the benefits! :)

Not really I start drinking water first thing in the morning, I drink 2 cups of coffee and then I drink nothing but water for the rest of the day. I have not drank sodas in 10 yrs and quit drinking tea about a 2 years ago. I really can't say that my bathroom activity has increased though. Good luck !

I have one of these dudes:
    bottles-podium-bottle-24oz-frost-charcoal-med.ashx.jpeg

3 of them a day is 72 oz and I usually manage at least 3 and a half, if not more. I just started forcing myself to suck it down and since the bottle is basically leakproof, I always have it with me. It helps that I've never been a soda or heavy juice drinker and milk is too expensive to keep in my house all the time so I'm basically left with water.

When I first started really drinking a good amount of water every day, I found myself going to the potty a LOT more. I don't really know if its slowed down or if I've gotten used to it but I probably go 5 or 6 times a day. My skin has significantly cleared up, my hair is nicer, my skin is much less dry than it used to be, and I sleep better because I'm not waking up thirsty or itchy at night.

I drink most of my 8 glasses durning my workouts and continue to drink throughout the day. When i drink while working out I can say I might have to use the bathroom twice in an hour. When i'm drinking throughout the day I'm constantly going to the bathroom. I noticed when i don't drink as much water the weight was slower to come off.

it goes away after a while. when you first start drinking water you have to pee all the time, then it regulates.

At first I did. But because of my job (factory welder) I had to do exercises to strengthen the muscles. It worked. Granted I don't drink 20 glasses a day. I strive for at least 8-16oz glasses a day.

I noticed a big difference. When I started losing weight a year ago I was dropping about 3 lbs a week. Now that I am closer to where I need to be it has been a little slower. I still drink all my water though.
  • I've gradually been adding water to my day. I started out only being able to drink 4-5 cups a day.. now I'm up to 16. Yes at first I had to go to the bathroom almost every 30-45 minutes. But I think you slowly get used to it because I can now go longer without going. It's not a big problem for me though if I had to go a lot, but if you're not near a bathroom it might be harder to deal with.

I'm a big water drinker, 16-20 cups a day most the time. I do go to the bathroom more than I used to (and usually get up 2-3 times at night too) - but I'm used to it now so it doesn't seem so bad. I think it's made a difference in my weight loss too, but as much as anyting I just feel better. I can tell when I've having a bad water day by the way I feel.
  • I pee every 40-60 mintutes. My kidneys are probably f'd up from years of drinking 2 liters of soda a day though, so I'm not sure if my peeing rate is normal. I do drink water constantly.

I have those eco-friendly stainless steel water bottles where you can hook it to your bag or belt loops! lol I try to drink about 3-4 a day, but there are days I end up drinking coffee/diet soda which is one of my worst habits to kick.

I have one of those aluminum water bottles with a snap closure spout, approximately 32 oz. The water doesn't gush out like with any normal bottle, but the flow isn't too slow either. I fill it several times a day and it keeps my water cool. During (and after) workouts, I drink at least 2 fillings worth of water and continue drinking throughout the day. I do have to go to the bathroom more frequently, but only about 3-4 times a day.

Yes, I definitely go to the bathroom more frequently! I've started drinking anywhere from 64 oz. a day to 96 oz. a day (8 - 12 cups/day). I drink about 2 cups in the early morning during my circuit training workout......then I just keep a water bottle (the Nalgene bottles are great) with me all the time!

I have a 20oz bottle I keep at work and then I count how many times I fill it a day. I TRY to fill it at least 4 times, which is 10 glasses a day. I don't have time to think about drinking at home, so I rarely do and on the weekends it's really hard! I do pee a lot, but I don't think about that as a problem, just as a side effect and remember that the water is good for me and helps flush out the crap that I eat when I DO eat crap. I've also noticed that if I don't keep drinking and I eat a lot of salty foods, that salt makes me retain water and then I gain weight. One day I had a lot of junk - salty food; hot dog & doritos for lunch and Panera for supper. I barely drank water that day and I gained 3 pounds (yup in one day). I'm guessing purely retained water weight. The next day I chugged the water (because I was back at work) and those 3 pounds dropped back off since I flushed all that junk out.

When I first started this journey I hardly drank any water at all but now I try to get 8-16 cups a day. In the beginning I went to the bathroom all the time and I thought something was wrong but now I pee about twice every hour. I'm starting to get used to it because I know that it will help me on the scale every week.
  • i skimmed the posts before me, sry if this is duplicate advice.

    I bought a 34ounce water bottle that i have with me always. i drink at least 3 of those a day - that's more than 12 glasses..almost 13.

I add crystal light to my water - SUPER diluted (or else it's way too sweet for me) - and that makes the world of difference.

your body gets used to it after awhile and the bathroom trips are less frequent than they were in the beginning :)

    chug-a-lug!
  • just wanted to say chug-a-lug again :drinker:

ditto for me! :flowerforyou: I don't have to go that often anymore and I drink quite a bit of water:drinker: Everyone's body is gonna react different but if you slowly add some in each day you should be good. I might wake up some nights once but that's about it unless I drink it late night. I even have a bottle next to my bed...like Selby shared...always got water with me..everywhere I go! .

I drink an average of 96 oz per day. when I first started, I did have to go to the bathroom a lot, but now I usually have to go every 1.5-2 hours. It's not too bad.
  • I stop tracking once I hit my 8...somedays I drink more, somedays less...I gave up soda when I started this program and actually find myself a lot thirstier..water has to be COLD I can't stand it room temperature...I bring a water bottle with me wherever I go..Usually down a bottle after breakfast and coffee the coffee makes me feel dry...sometimes I drink 2..Usually drink 1-2 between breakfast and lunch...plus another with lunch...same for dinner...I walk in the evening..I bring a bottle with me...If I take 2 laps I stop home between and gulp down a bottle..

I try to keep a bottle by my side at all times...At first I had to go every 10 minutes (or so it felt) not as bad now..

You get used to it after a while, even at night. For me it is a matter of drinking 16 ounces at a time.

but there are days I end up drinking coffee/diet soda which is one of my worst habits to kick.

I don't have a soda issue but I do like my coffee. Over 100 calories a day come from my coffee creamer =[. Trying to cut back. I do drink at least 8 cups of water, most of the time more. I work from home so going to the bathroom often doesn't have my coworkers looking at me like I have a bladder problem...

I drink at least 16-20 cups of water a day. I did go to the washroom alot when I first started but now I go about every hour now and only once during the night. You get used to it. I haven't drank any pop for 2 yrs now and don't drink juice either just water.

I thinking drinking so much water seems like craziness. Is there any real scientific evidence that a person needs to drink this much. I feel like my bladder is going to explode all of the time!?

20 glasses of water a day sounds mythical to me, like I can't believe it until I see it...unless I lived in the desert.

I was watching a health program on tv recently that said 8 glasses a day was sort of wisdom of the past, but in reality you don't need 8 glasses, as lots of your food and other drinks have water in them so you still get what you need without literally drinking 8 glasses.

I do try to still drink "pure" water, but I am at 3 glasses a day on a good day. I'm trying though. One step at a time. It is better than when I would have to actually try to remember when I last drank water. I can only comfortably drink water when my body asks for it, if not, I will take a sip or 2 and feel satisfied OR I will drink it and feel like I am full but at the same time it hasn't quenched my thirst...I don't know if that makes sense. I also was unable to drink water in the morning, if I did or drank it on an empty stomach I'd feel nauseous. But yea...I am improving though.

Really gonna depend on how much a person needs with exercise, their body weight etc. Some of us just might need more than others. I used to drink 8-9 24oz. bottles of water a day but have since cut it down to 5 or so, really depends on my activity level and what my body needs. Summer I drink a ton of water because of the heat, but I noticed now that I've had to turn the heat on for Winter:grumble: the dry air is making me need more fluid so I've had to up it again.

Before I reached goal weight (not just what's on my ticker but think 100++ more:blushing: . I restarted my ticker to finish out), when I was at my heaviest, I was doing the suggested 'drink 1/2 your body weight' in water in ounces.

I think if a person can make it to 8 cups of water a day, more power to them:drinker: I happen to love water:love: but seems some really struggle with drinking it so if they build up to that I say kudos to them! Maybe it's like liver for me...ew...just something I can't eat no matter how wonderful the health benefits are!
