Question about # reps/weight?

Embarrassing noob question that seems logical, but still.

For weight loss, does

lower weight, more reps = higher weight, less reps?

Basically, I'm so bored by the time I hit my 15-20th rep on my third set, it's hard to finish sometimes. I'd love to cut the time it takes in half, but still maintain the same benefit. If so, is it as simple as just doubling up my weight and halving my reps..ish?

TIA!

    combo....

eg- if you are doing 4 sets then first two sets of lighter weights and higher reps and the last two sets of higher weights and lesser reps.

For weight loss, reps/sets make absolutely no difference.

For weight loss, the only thing that matters is a Caloric deficit.

If you're bored with your routine (even if you aren't), I'd recommend getting started on a tried and true strength training program such as StrongLifts of Starting Strength.
  • When I lift, I go for higher weights and fewer reps. That is, I aim for failure (can't lift it one more time) between 8 and 12 reps. Is there an advantage to lifting lower weights at higher reps? I think muscle is sexy, so I am trying to increase mine. :)

Derr! Yeah, obviously. Don't know why I didn't come to that conclusion! LOL

The gym trainer set me up with a pretty good total body work-out (dumb bell squats, step-up bicep curls etc.) that I'm happy with. So I'm not quite ready to try StrongLifts, although I'm keeping it in the back on my mind for when I'm ready to move on. :)

    Thanks, everyone!
