Great Weight Loss Tip - Take Photos of Your Food

I heard a great tip on one of my friends blogs the other day and I thought it was just brilliant. She suggested that you take pictures of your food. Not to post it on Facebook or something - I don't think fat-shaming is healthy or productive, but to just create more awareness of what you are eating.

If it's a healthy meal, you can look at the picture and smile and feel proud of yourself. And if you are tempted to eat something unhealthy, maybe knowing that you have to take a picture of it will make you stop and think twice about your choice. I think you could take a picture of a case full of donuts and then walk away telling yourself that you were tempted to treat yourself to one, but that you are choosing to be healthy instead.

I'm going to try it - anyone want to join me?

    I'm an avid cook and often take pictures of my plates. But the biggest benefit is wanting to make a nice-looking plate, then I don't eat extra because my plate is already portioned and balanced. You could be on to something.

    I agree it's a great idea. I often take pictures of the delicious meals my husband cooks up.

    I'm just wondering, is posting healthy meals to facebook or instagram all of a sudden fat shaming? That's news to me. :ohwell:

    I'm an avid cook and regularly take pictures of my foods...and I post them to face book because I like to make all of my friends who don't know how to cook jealous. I guess my biggest issue would be defining healthy...I mean overwhelmingly my diet is chalk full of nutrition...but I don't shy away from a doughnut either and most certainly don't feel guilt or shame for having some delicious treat.

    LOVE these pictures! And in no way is posting pics of food fat shaming. I do it all the time on instagram/facebook...of my healthy meals AND cheats. :)

    My heath coach just mentioned this tip to me...she suggested doing it during those times where I am a little busy to log. She said to snap a picture of my meal and log it later, that way I wont forget what I ate!

    Yah no...there is no such thing as bad food and good food so me taking pics of it wont stop me from eating what I want...

    About the only reason for me to do that would be to prove to people I eat as much as I do...

    IE posted a recipe for Chicken gernades (chicken wrapped with cheese and bacon) and was told

    "you don't eat that and stay as small as you"

    Wanna bet I don't...

    No, I think posting healthy meals is wonderful. I was thinking more about people who would post their bad foods as in "I can't believe I ate this today - I'm such a terrible person, blah blah blah". I don't think that is particularly helpful, but keeping a private photo record of unhealthy foods might be more of a motivator.
