Eat throughout the day....

Eat small balanced meals through the day. I’m sure you've heard this one a thousand times. This one is all about metabolism. We can’t lift weights or do cardio all day long, but we can keep our metabolism burning. We do this by eating balanced meals every few hours. Eating well balanced meals will prevent you from snacking on unhealthy foods and keep you burning fat when you aren’t being active.

What kinds of meal plans do you use to implement such a plan?

Where have you been successful?

Well, I have been kind of successful. I never eat breakfast, I eat a huge lunch, and I rarely snack. Pretty sure science disputes your "eating balanced meals though out the day" claims. But, do what works for you. I really hope your metabolism doesn't "go out".

sigh ...this is just dead wrong...

metabolism and meal timing have nothing to do with each other.

You can eat one meal, six meals, or 24 meals spaced out one hour a day and there is zero impact on metabolism...

Please stop spreading this rumor ...as the newbies will think it is true and then repeat to others....

I eat three to four meals a day and during last cut lost about nine pounds...so my experience debunks your assertion.

    Hey man

The 6 meals a day theory has never been proven . Your metabolism is not affected by meal timing , TOTAL calories consumed vs total calories expended has a significant effect on body composition and metabolism .

Don't worry about eating every 2-3hours , personally I eat two massive meals a day and hit my calorie goal . You wont go into "starvation mode" if you don't eat for a couple of hours .

You don't need to "keep your metabolism burning" - it's "burning" 24/7.

This seems to be the myth that will not die. Eat lots of small meals if you want to, eat few and large meals if you want to.
It's what you eat and how much you eat over the course of a day or a week that matters.

How miserable would it be if you had to like put timers on your phone to alert you when your window of keeping your body fire going went off? Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that isn't true. Sometimes, I eat 3 meals, sometimes I have 5. Add long add your body is getting proper fuel, it doesn't care when throughout the day.

Agreed. 1 meal, 3 meals, 5 or more... no difference. Guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you're cutting portion sizes and find that you're starving and can't hold out, then ok, sure you need to do something to adjust since we're all different. Doesn't mean you're not still burning though.

Meal frequency does not affect metabolism, but it does help some people from over eating.

Eating this way with exercise is what helped me lose the 60 lbs that i have lost since March of 2013. It works and I am proof. As Poofy said it does assist with over eating because you are less likely to make unhealthy choices based of impulse. But also fueling your body throughout the day keeps you from burning off muscle if you are wanting to make gains, especially if you are balancing proteins and carbs.
