Abs are made by eating at a deficit and lifting heavy weights in the gym.0

No, you do not need to eat clean.
To reveal your ab muscles you need 2 things, low enough body fat such that little fat covers the muscles and big enough muscles such that they show through what body fat you do have and your skin. Low body fat comes from a calorie deficit. Muscles are preserved during a calorie deficit by resistance training and adequate protein intake. Muscles are built by eating at a calorie surplus along with the resistance training and protein intake. If you genetically store fat in your stomach, and have small muscles, it might take a lot of work to get "abs".0 -
They are incorrect. You need to eat at a caloric deficit to reduce your body fat percentage enough to see your abdominal muscles. All this entails is making sure you get enough protein to not lose as much abdominal (and other) muscle mass so there's something to reveal after losing the fat.
"Clean" is a proprietary and ultimately meaningless term.0 -
"Abs are made in the kitchen" means eating at a deficit. Unfortunately, it is often interpreted as having to eat "clean." Whatever that means.0
