Don't judge me because

I like to have sweet n low. I like to drink tea, but don't want to add the calories of sugar. I like to have coffee, but once again-don't want to add the calories of sugar. For me it is a give and take kind of journey, and if eating sweet n low is what it takes to make me successful, then that is what I will do.
I realize that not everyone agrees, and that is totally fine-but please stop being so negative to those of us that like to have our artificial sweeteners. This site isn't about being negative to others for how they are achieving their goal, so please remember that when you are making your posts.

Losing weight has nothing to do with what you eat. Its about the quantities that your eat. I eat a lot of things that people on a "diet" aren't supposed to eat. I just limit the amount of what I eat.0

No judging here ) I eat them too.0

have you tried stevia extract or agave or honey? stevia comes in packets, similar to your sweet-n-low and is a natural substitute for sugar. no calories and honestly, much much much sweeter than sugar, so you barely have to use any. i started using it several months ago and since it comes from a plant, it pretty much cooks up just like sugar in recipes.
ands psst... i love coffee too! don't sweat the small stuff, just have fun and get fit!0 -
Your right, we're not here for negativity. In fact, we are here to be supportive and positive. We may not always agree, but by sharing ideas we learn new ways to succeed. If they work for us, great, if not, keep the negativity away from here. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with your journey.0

I use equal for my coffee and I bake/cook with splenda for the exact same reason. I have actually been using equal for years as I drink at least two cups of coffee a day! In the winter, (ND), pretty much a cup every evening, too. I guess I hadn't seen anyone being negative about it but in reality I really don't care, it's what I do to save calories so I am with you.0

I haven't tried these, no. Is stevia good? Does it have an after taste?0 -
i love stevia in my tea, but i never liked the taste in my coffee just sugar, until truvia came out. its stevia but somehow they make it take more like sugar. delish, natural and zero cals= zero guilt.0

Yep. I eat lots of things people aren't "supposed" to eat when watching calories either. I just don't overdo it. I love my coffee (about half a pot a day...I know, I know) and I still use sugar free coffee creamers. There's still calories in it, but I allow for the calories in my daily allotment. If you like artificial sweetners, then go ahead and use them. I think too many people try and push the negatives on folks. Life is too short to not enjoy treats and even the simpler things in life, like coffee!!!0 -
I agree, no negativity needed. Just support. I like to have diet sodas now over my traditional sweet tea and frappes. I've tried stevia in protein shakes and it is very good. I order my whey protein from true protein (online) and they give the option to add stevia. My brother in law, who is a personal trainer, actually recommended the mix!0

it doesn't seem to give me an aftertaste, and i'm a huge sugar fanatic! i love stevia and truvia, they seem like an "ok" substitute since they're nature based and not chemically enhance... but that's totally up to you to try!0

Losing weight may not have anything to do with what you eat, or maybe it does...........
However, enjoying Fantastic Health, boundless energy do have to do with what you eat.
To the OP, have you tried Sweet Leaf Stevia?0 -

The good thing is, coffee is one of the world's healthiest foods.............
What makes it bad for us is what we put in it. I often drink a pot or more of coffee per day. I enjoy mine strong and black though.0 -
There is also a brand named Sun Crystals, same basic gist as Truvia, but it comes in a bag so it's cheaper and easier if you want to cook with it (I've only ever seen Truvia in the little packets). It's really good and doesn't have the chemically after-taste that I find Equal, Sweet-n-Low and Splenda to have. But hey, to each their own0

I think some people may just come across the wrong way. The truth is, artificial sweeteners are not good for your body and are not conducive to weight loss. When you eat or drink something sweet your body/brain interprets it as a form of sugar (fructose, glucose, sucrose, lactose, etc.) and your body produces insulin so that your kidneys and liver can absorb the sugar from your blood stream. But when this happens it prevents your body from converting body fat into energy. So your body just uses what sugar may be in your blood stream for energy. And if you don't have sugar from the food you're eating or the drink you're drinking because it has a non-sugar sweetener, your organs use what little sugar may be in your blood stream which then causes you to be hypoglycemic. And hypoglycemia forces you to eat or drink more. So you end up having to consume more calories and your body doesn't burn its fat stores. Artificial sweeteners are extremely counterproductive for those trying to lose weight.0

I too use sweet n low. I have tried truvia, stevia and sun crystals and I can taste an after taste. But that's just me. I was worried about health effects until I did my own research. So it works for me. Maybe not for others but who am I to judge?0

I know a lot of people think that artificial sweeteners are bad. They say that it messes with your hormones and how they perceive hunger. Not to mention, some research points that it can cause cancer.
I look at it this way, I feel there's no problem with using substitutes as long as it's in moderation (like everything else). You shouldn't feel bad about using sugar substitute, if it's to help you along with your weight loss goals!

LoL
I just began adding sugar in my coffee to my diary yesterday!
Well. It's now much anyway but now it's in the diary too. :laugh:0 -

Honey has 64 calories and 17g of sugar in a tbsp- it's just not processed. Agave sweetener has 60 calories and 16g of sugar in a tbsp (I'm looking at a bottle of right now). No better than regular sugar except the it is low-glycemic. It is absorbed slowly preventing spikes in blood sugar. It's a good sweetener for diabetics.
They may be a better substitute for table sugar but not for artificial sweeteners. I've read a lot about artificial sweeteners and have read some really bad things about them but I figure as long as we're not downing them by the cup we're ok.
Did you know that Aspartame in large doses can cause convulsions? There was also a recent study done with women only. Those who had 3 diet sodas per day had a 30% decline in kidney function. Unfortunately, even the 'natural' artificial sweeteners have been processed and/or refined. As far as I'm concerned they are all the same.
Oh and I put 2 packets of Splenda in my oatmeal. Like everything else we put in our bodies - MODERATION!0 -

I AGREE! I REFUSE TO GIVE UP EVERYTHING. SOMETIMES IT IS WORTH THE 26G OF SUGAR JUST TO HAVE A LUIGI'S LEMON ITALIAN ICE!!! YUM! I JUST DON'T DO IT EVERYDAY.0 -
i use artificial sweeteners too.
I use to use sweet-n-low, now i use Truvia.0
