Weight gain but inches lost?

Hi guys I'm new here. I started my weight loss diet about 3 weeks ago cutting calories and getting back into running. My first week I lost a whopping 10 lbs!!!! Now I know a lot of that was water however in the past 2 weeks I have gained 5 of those lbs back but lost inches? I'm really confused as to how this is happening. In addition to running as I have made it to being able to run 5K again I added insanity this week doing insanity 3 days of the week and running the other two. Anyone else have something like this where you don't lose weight or gain but lose inches? Love to hear I'm not alone and doing my body good.

Sounds normal, same thing happened to me. Remember muscle weighs more than fat

Fluctuations happen due to water retention, undigested food, etc. If you're only weighing once a week that'll make it even harder to know what's a fluctuation and what isn't. Those 5lbs will probably be gone in a few days.
  • The same thing is happening to me. You're not alone! I've lost 3.5 inches, but gained 4 pounds. I did a little research and I learned it could take weeks before the pounds start decreasing, I'm going to avoid the scale for a few weeks because I feel great, and I see positive changes in my body. It's hard enough to push myself to work out and eat well, I don't need anything to discourage me!! Keep up the good work, you'll see your desired results in no time!

You could have mismeasured or you have water retention... also, I would highly recommend dropping one of your cardio programs for resistance training. It will help with muscle retention. Also, make sure you eat enough calories as you are doing heavy workouts.
