Digital Food Scale on the Dinner Table

Does anyone else do this? My family is used to it and OK with it.

    Yep.
  • Sometimes. I usually weigh out my stuff before I call the family to the table. But, no one even comments on it anymore when I do.

Sure why not. I keep mine on my counter and plate my food before I sit down. Whatever works for you!

yes I do. I bring my scale and measuring cup to the table every night.
  • Just got my scale two weeks ago, I have tried not too but my husband doesn't seem to mind when I do

This is what I do. That way I would have to get up and go into the kitchen to get seconds. Also, when I cook, I like to plate all the family's food and bring it out.

The only thing I usually bring to the dinner table food-wise is salad, and if I eat it un-dressed then it is generally so few calories that any estimation error is lost in the noise of the day.

What effect does eating in your birthday suit have on calories in/calories out?!

I have one on the kitchen counter where we plate our food but I don't do it in front of my kids.

I guess if you do a traditional "family style" serve-yourself type dinner, then it would make sense. I'm used to a "fix plates in the kitchen" method, so I wouldn't bring mine to the dinner table if I had others around.

I get cold and shiver away the fat, of course... but only when I eat salad...

That is really sweet! I just had a nasty memory of when my -ex was trying to get me back he made us steak dinner and put my plate on some digital weed scales and was all like "Do you want to weigh it?" LOL.

Flash forward a few years and my current boyfriend is really supportive. Since our relationship is new (met 6 months ago, made it official 3 weeks ago) I really enjoy bringing my dinners to the table (also he eats tons and needs to be able to get seconds easily because he'll have 2-3 plates and 2-3 glasses of water usually as well). Since we're both busy professionals I use the crock pot for many dinners, then transfer it's contents to a big pyrex serving dish for serving.

I put meat, weigh, add a veggie, weigh, add another veggie, weigh etc.. until I've got an accurate measurement.

But if I served from the counter top, I'd leave it there, but I like all the food and condiments right there on the table for that classic Leave-it-to-Beaver event of the family passing the food dishes and filling their plates together.

I measure my food out and put it on my plate before I go sit down and enjoy dinner. However, I leave the food on the kitchen counter and basically eat dinner kinda like a buffet style thing. The food that is not on my plate stays on the counter.

I actually had never heard of people actually bringing the food to the dinner table and serving from there until I started dating my boyfriend. However, those days where he wants to bring everything to the table I just bring the scale right along with me.

Yep, I do sometimes for portion control on certain dishes, ex. casseroles. Hubby hasn't commented about it except for a big smile. :)

But mostly it's kept in the kitchen to use when prepping meals just for myself. Family meals are serve yourself buffet style from the dining room table with plates taken elsewhere to eat while doing other activities.

We only eat AT the table when we're having fire pit grilled steak, during dinner parties or holiday meals. The scales stay in the kitchen during those scenarios.

is it accurate to measure out already cooked food instead of it in it's raw form?

Yes if you use a 'cooked' entry in the database.
